Ok so I made a post about a lump in my groin. It's gotten worse. It's really swollen and there's other parts of my leg which have now swollen. I have to go to hospital tomorrow to get it drained but they won't do it under local anesthetic, only general. I'm literally shitting myself. What if I don't wake up? This is my biggest fear. X

My daughter, now 29, had a large cyst...golf ball size... growing on her neck just below her ear when she was 14. The Ear, Nose & Throat specialist recommended getting it out rather than draining it as cysts often fill up again. So she had to go under general anaesthetic and was terrified, but the head man performing the op had a chat to her and told her he would look after her and everything would be fine, and everything was.

Sometimes we've just got to have faith in the specialists...in the Cardiologist who holds hearts in his hand, in the Orthopaedic surgeon who gives people new knees, in the paediatric surgeon who makes little children well again. They all know what they're doing. Don't let the scary stories get to you, things going wrong in operations are very very rare.

Thank you. I know you're right. I know it has to come out. I feel very silly for squeezing it and in dreading the procedure, especially the being put to sleep hit and the pain after. Scared I'll get an infection. X

Well I woke up lol. And was promptly sick. To be honest it wasn't as bad as I imagines - obviously I didn't remember anything, I just woke up cold. Managed to keep down a sandwich and a cuppa, and I'm back home now. :)

I'm glad you're ok. But I do think that health care staff overuse general anaesthetics. A lot of things can be done with locals or regional, but they use general because its easier for them. You need to stand up to these people

well they said they use a general instead of a local due to the area it was in - said I wouldn't tolerate the pain very well
