View Full Version : Swallowing issue?
Not all the time but sometimes recently when I'm eating I feel like my throats won't swallow? I just spent about half an hour crying about my health anxiety to my partner and we got a pizza in once I had calmed down. Well my throats feels so weird and I've just tried to drink some juice and my throat wouldn't swallow and then it suddenly did and I chocked. Isn't this a symptom of ALS? I'm frightened

It's not a symptom of ALS, no. Swallowing issues almost always come much later in disease progression, and not as you described.
Your issue is anxiety.
The lump in throat feeling, or difficulty swallowing, are both very common physical side effects of anxiety. There's even a name for it: globes hystericus. When I first heard of it I thought the name sounded made up. But it's a real effect of anxiety.
It's a scary feeling but it's a normal reaction to anxiety. It's nothing to worry about. It's nothing more than your anxiety.

I think I have globus on one side of my throat... if that’s even possible.
