hello all! i have recently been very anxious about std's and in particular, hiv. about 2 months ago i started dating my boyfriend. i have never been with anyone sexually before him, and so far i have only given him oral (within the past 3 weeks maybe). this has happened a few times and he has finished in my mouth (i am sorry to be vulgar). anyway, he went to a clinic before any of this happened, and they tested him for everything and he was negative (and because i'm worried he's going again) but i was just curious how likely it is for me to get HIV from oral?

i have had very sore muscles lately, was dizzy and sick feeling a few days ago (that's since passed) and the past two days or so i've had a very dry mouth which is something i've never had before. i am not dehydrated and i'm not taking and medication so this worries me. there has been a sickness going around my school lately but i never felt like i had a cold. my body was just sore and tired. now i'm mostly better except for the dry mouth which kind of comes and goes throughout the day. im wondering if its anxiety because when i think about it, it gets worse (but truly, my mouth is dry).

any info about hiv would be appreciated. and any causes for my dry mouth!

Hey Turboswag,

I've been there! I went through a long period of anxiety relating to HIV exposure. The first thing to remember that he was tested before this incident and he was negative, so the risk here is zero. Even if he was infected, the risk of transmission from a single exposure via oral is extremely low - something in the order of 1/10,000. Transmission via this route is extremely inefficient. Your illness has to be unrelated. The most important thing here is not to let this consume you. Anxiety will make you start asking 'what if?' questions, which can quickly develop into an obsession. I hope this helps, but I'd say you have absolutely nothing to worry about. J

Since he tested "negative for everything", what would that mean?

He must have undergone an STD screen, and has therefore been tested for all relevant STDs, including HIV.
