Hello,
I've been lurking for a while. I have a history of health anxiety and have been working with CBT. I should meditate more though.
Both my grandfathers died of some sort of Leukemia / 'blood cancer'.
About 10 years ago I started getting strange leg aches. I got tested I think one tested showed hypercalcemia - nothing after that. Chalked up to 'nervous leg' - it went away with exercise.
4 or 5 years ago, during a very stressful period, I was having symmetric bone aches on right and left side (fore arms, shins). I also had occasional itching all over. Nothing that led to bleeding, but bouts of itching that came and went. The doctor ran some blood tests - nothing. The itching was attributed to laundry detergent.
2 years ago I had a blood test done - some ratio was off. I got tested again checking for myeloma. I drank a lot of water to make sure it wasn't dehydration (I run a lot and was drinking a lot of coffee and little water). Tests were fine.
This last summer I felt like the area around my pernium was bigger - not swollen or tender, but like I'd have to tuck it up when jogging. I can also feel it when sitting some times. I talked to my dr about it. No suggestions. I went to another dr and had a prostrate ultrasound - nothing. This is a sensation that comes and goes.
At about the same time, I thought I had gall bladder issues because of some seemingly pale stool. I took a bunch of the herbal gall stone breakers. I got pain in the region of my gall bladder. My GP referred me to a liver specialist. The ultrasounds came back normal. GP and liver specialist were fine as blood results were OK. [Apparently, the radiologist suggested MRIs - GP said that this is normal procedure for radiologists.] My stool is mostly fine - some times soft at the end. Almost no pain except when eating spicy foods. I asked the liver specialist if my abdominal area was swollen. His touch test and the ultrasound didn't seem to hint at anything.
This fall I began having odd sensations in my chest. I chalked it up to costochondritis. The sensations went away (basically) and I did not mention them to my GP last time I saw him. I occasionally have weird sensations in different points in my chest, also slight aches that come and go - sometimes left front, sometimes right front and back. I breathe fine and things feel better with running if anything.
Sometimes I get an aching sensation in my left fore arm. Sometimes I get sharp pains on my hands. [I think this might be a response to shellfish. I was tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis - but nothing.]
The lymph nodes under my jaw have been swelling a lot. I thought it might be a cold I was catching. I cannot seem to feel the lymph node under my left arm. I think there is a bigger spot under my right arm - it doesn't hurt or anything. I did get the overall itch sensation which came and went. [I think it may have appeared after I googled my symptoms.] Thinking about lymphoma, I've also begun to wonder if a spot (around the right side of my belt buckle) which came and went, which I could feel internally, but neither I nor my dr externally, approximately where they put the ultrasound, could be a lymphnode.
I also feel like there is one spot on my front left rib cage which seems to be a little bit of a hole. It seems less pronounced on the right side. I also have occasional sensations in this area.
I'm not sure what questions to ask. This is a very rare cancer and I'm prone to health anxiety. I'd prefer to stay away from a CT because it seems problematic for someone with health anxiety [especially a cancer phobia] to get an expensive test that increases odds of cancer.
Recommendations? Questions for the dr.?
