View Full Version : Blood in Urine... HELP.

Oh dear... I can't believe I'm back here again, but I would never have imagined seeing blood in my urine. And I'm losing my mind.

A couple of weeks ago, I woke up to pee and my pee was pink. Just as many of you would have, I immediately freaked out and went down to the doctor the next day to get it checked out. They found that there was quite a bit of blood in it (1800 RBC and 4+ Occult), but no presence of micro-organisms. Immediately, I wanted to see a specialist. There was no pain (maybe a slight discomfort in my bladder area) and if it wasn't caused by an infection, what could it be caused by?

I was (slightly) relieved when I had a sore throat and high-fever later that day as I thought it was really a case of UTI. However, after the fever subsided, there was still blood in my pee (not as much as the first day, but my pee was noticeably orangy).

I finally managed to get to see a specialist last week and he prescribed me antibiotics for a week, even though the urine tests still tested negative for any infection... Then began a cycle of my pee clearing up and me getting hopeful and me seeing blood in it again. Currently, I'm on my final day of antibiotics and I'm still noticing dark/cloudy residue in it. It's been two weeks to the day I first noticed the blood.

I've been for urine tests before (just one last year) and have never noticed any irregularities or abnormalities. So this is definitely not something that has been long-standing.

Whatever the case, I'm scheduled to have a thorough ultrasound and another appointment with the specialist in another 2 weeks (as that's the earliest they could slot me in). I'm hoping that it's nothing. I'm praying that it'll clear by itself. Currently, I'm only in my mid-twenties, so I doubt it can be anything serious... Still, I can't stop my mind from wondering. I can't. I mean, if it's not an infection... what other reason could there be? Kidney stones? Random inflammation? AHHH!!!

(I am so scared of the possibility of having a camera put up my pee hole as well! Guy here.)

Sorry you have this, it does sound scary :( Sounds like you've done all the right things though and it's good you've got the ultrasound coming up. I'm sure two weeks seems like forever though!

Obviously you won't get a definite answer until then, but there are a bunch of things it could be. UTIs can cause bleeding with no other symptoms sometimes, and I've had a UTI and bleeding with clear urine tests before. Since the antibiotics did help at first, it could be that... maybe you just need something a bit stronger.

Or it could just be a bit of inflammation anywhere in the urinary system. Or maybe kidney stones, which should resolve themselves (might start to hurt though!)

Plenty of other benign reasons! I know you must be beside yourself with the waiting though. I know I would be. Sending positive thoughts.

Thank you so much!!! The thing is, I have a ton of work and projects to get through in these couple of weeks as deadlines are coming up quick and I can't concentrate at all or get my head in the right place! Really appreciate the thoughts!:)

I get it, I feel like a bit of a fraud when I comment on other people's posts when my own health anxiety is so severe! I've been signed off work for weeks, and I've barely missed a day of work in my life before.

Much better today after an encouraging ultrasound though. I was sure there was something wrong as they haven't been to see my left ovary for ages, and I've been having pains, and had a 4cm ovarian cyst last time, and a really difficult miscarriage... but this scan showed nothing concerning! So even when the symptoms seem stacked against you it's often nothing. Hang in there and I hope your ultrasound is all good too! Hope you'll update us.

I had this randomly when I was 17. It went away and no cause was found (but I had no scan). I then had it again at 28 and it was a kidney stone. I don't know if the kidney stone had been there all those years but I'm guessing so. I know that's not great but the likelihood of it being something scarier than that at your age is next to 0.

Will do!

Definitely. Gotta stay rational. But my emotions don't want anything to do with that... :weep:

I'm having the same issue. I had blood a couple years ago and all tests came back clear, including a CT. My doctor ordered a cytology this time. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing!!
