I’m not sure if this is the place for this thread, but it seems right.

Ever since my daughter was diagnosed with food allergies, I’ve been washing my hands a lot more throughout the day. Hand washing is good, obviously, but, because I fear cross-contamination of allergens, I’m doing it a lot more.

Any time I touch a food that has an allergen or a surface on which an allergen sat, I wash my hands. I clean surfaces after the allergens sat there (cheese, peanut butter, etc.) and then I wash my hands again.

Cross-contamination is a real thing and a real danger, but I worry I’m over doing it. I don’t want to put her a risk, by my hands are raw and irritated from all of the handwashing. My husband isn’t as careful. She has sometimes gotten hives from his carelessness, but that comes in the form of him kissing her forehead after he eats an allergen and she breaks out in hives.

I guess I’m just wondering if this is OCD.
