This is the deal.
For one week we are NOT allowed to GOOGLE any symptoms.
For one week say 'do your worst' when the anxiety comes and smile as we say it.
For ONE week we meditate every day, we find a moment of calm before bed or upon waking and spend 10 minutes on our breathing and being clam
For one week we are NOT allowed coffee (ouch)
For one week we MUST exercise every day for 30 minutes.
For one week we MUST drink 8 glasses of water everyday.
For one week we must stop eating as much sugar.

That's all...

Starting today - Monday in New Zealand .... I will start now with all of the above, I will come on here every single day to say how I am doing so and how I feel and I want someone else to do it with me, or lots of others to do it with me.
When you feel the URGE to google come here, we are different time zones but I'll do my best to stop you and like wise.

Right now my anxiety is at an all-time high, I've spent the whole day wasting my time on google reading about muscle twitches, my body is in hyper twitch, I can feel every single muscle spasming away, and I'M OVER IT.

I can't do this anymore so this week ... I will do something DIFFERENT.

Whose in?!

It will help you. It helped me it may not completely relieve your twitching but it will help you realize that you are healthy and the twitching is benign. I only drink coffee when it's an emergency because it does amplify my twitching. I workout 5 days a week and it has really helped change my life. I use the < your weight> ÷ 2 = the ounces of water one drinks method . I try to avoid sugar unless it's from fruit as much as possible. I still twitch but I feel great. You can do it ! Keep up the good work and make it a habit. Take the ocd thoughts and actions and turn them into something positive.:yesyes:

Thank you! I really want to ask you about your twitching but I wont ... I wont I"ll just forget about mine and keep going. So hard to NOT google.
I was just about to google 'how long do you need to take magnesium till twitching stops.' - but I didn't ... it's still googling for an ailment.
So good first 5 minutes into my plan I reckon!

** whispers - (I'm going to ask you about your twitching after the week is over)

Lmao it's best to accept them and try to condition your brain to not fear them. I take Magnesium, I really don't take it for twitching though, I'm on a diet and it's recommended.

This is harder than I thought, my big toe just twitched, it's never twitched before, almost felt like a cramp twitch, back to the ALS I go - freaking out but have NOT googled.. but automatically ran to my computer to start googling!!!!! Came here instead, I may be alone in doing this, potentially, but you'll all hear about my moaning ;)
Thanks, Nivekc251 x

Don't use here as a replacement for Google though? You are still tuned into your twitching and there are plenty of twitchers on here so plenty of scope for reading their stories along with their fears etc etc.

Why not get away from anxiety forums and give your brain a break?

Being here and doing it this way means I have responsibility as I said I'd do it - so you guys are my barometer ;) ha ha x

That's all? While I think that is a noble and positive list, it's perhaps too challenging for most. Just not Googling (at all) is a monumental feat for a HA sufferer! Why not tackle one at a time so you don't disappoint yourself should you falter.

Well done for trying to do something positive for your HA.

Don't be downhearted and give up if you have a little blip, that's all part of trying to recover. I hope it goes well for you, I agree with fish too, baby steps!

I also think sometimes health anxiety suffers should try take a break of this site aswell as google if you're trying to recover as someone's thread could trigger you into thinking you have something.

I'm a believer in small steps and these things are small steps to me fishmapa, I know what I need to do to make some kind of change and I'm determined not to do antidepressants as I've seen the downside to them in my family!
So far so good - I normally wake up and Google straight away and o haven't. This is kinda like my blog but if I'm not allowed to do that admin then just tell me.
I cancelled my dr's appointment for lwgionnaires - I thought I had that after dealing with compost but I've just got my daughters cold. Seeing the neurologist again about my twitching tomorrow and then no more medical unless I truly need it ( ha ha ) oh how I laugh ....... ;)
Thanks for your support guys!!!!
I'm 40 - I can't live another 40 years like this!

Just take it one step at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself. Start with some of the easier ones... Week #1 go for the water and meditation, add on as you go. It's important to have solid small victories to build on.

I was a personal trainer years ago and this same techniques I used to help build confidence in my clients.

I think I would like to joint that experiment. Although not now. And - I woould add NOT DRINK ANY ALCOHOL and NO SOFT DRINKS in that week period aswell.

I think I will do that experiment at some outdoor retreat in Norway with little or no Internet connection. Being near nature is also good medicine

well guys, I got a coffee today but I feel ok about it ... and I googled (!!!!) but I'm not beating myself up - I'm still doing it, no sugar, been meditating and taking lots of pills - fish oil, magnesium etc ... off to see the neurologist today about the ongoing twitching, I think that has put me into hyper-vigilant mode and hype aware mode which made me google.... but I stopped before too long which is good....ha ha thanks for asking Elyse!!!

aggghhh that sounds AMAZING!
I don't drink soft drink or alcohol so that's easy for me - though I think starting to drink the odd red wine at night isn't a bad idea!

I'd like to propose a revised experiment. As I posted, that is quite a lofty list. Someone that is weak due to anxiety would find it challenging to say the least. Using the same list, I suggest each one as a goal for a week adding on as you go. If you need two weeks to reach the goal, so be it.

Week #1. We meditate every day, we find a moment of calm before bed or upon waking and spend 10 minutes on our breathing and being calm.
Week #2. We drink 8 glasses of water everyday.
Week #3. We stop eating as much sugar. Keep a record and reduce your sugar intake by 50%. Week 2 cut in half. A treat now and again is just that... a treat!
Week #4 Cut coffee consumption by half. Week two, half again and after that every other day. Week three abstain.
Week #5 For one week we MUST exercise every day for 30 minutes. This ties into Week #6. By exercising, be it walking or some other form, it provides a physical benefit and distracts you from your symptoms or looking them up on line.
Week #6 We are NOT allowed to GOOGLE any symptoms. If you find the urge too strong, SEE STEP#5!
Week #7 Say 'do your worst' when the anxiety comes and smile as we say it.

A bit more realistic? ;)

Yeah a bit more realistic and yes weakened by anxiety is what i am.
I"ve been in bed for the last week pretty much, I work from home which doesn't help so I sit in bed all day and work and feel sorry for myself and experience twitches and flickers in my face and freak out. I'm stuck in a horrible pattern and I need to get out.
I think the first one should be NO googling as that's the most debilitating!

Damn, couldnt even make it one day? With all due respect, this is an anxiety forum, not a health one. Coffee is good for you, in fact. Your number 1 problem and the one you really need to focus on is the health anxiety, and that means no Google. The rest of the list doesn't matter, save for meditating, which helps with the anxiety. But you need to draw a line in the sand.

So, you have tackled things on that list then. It doesn't have to be a race of cold turkeys, slow & steady elimination works better in therapy anyway since ERP yields greater results. It avoids a yo yo diet approach which is unsustainable for many people.

How about starting smaller? If you are retreating more indoors, add In even short tasks to get you out & about. Get up & dressed to work and out of the bedroom. Small goals per week like this are used in therapy. Behavioural Activation originates from CBT and became became a therapeutic approach in it's own right.

Most of all - you want to try and are planning. That's not That's not a failure. Judging by one day isn't valid in the slightest, a shift in pattern is what to look for. Short blips are par for the course.

General health is important, therapists & doctors encourage it! And reducing caffeine is good too. All healthy living advice by the medical professionals that is standard. It's certainly very important to mental health otherwise why would exercise be good for mental health? Foods & activity (mental & physical) are very important to brain health.

Good luck!
