I have tried and taken multiple supplements over the lat 4-5 years and they do help.

What I will say though is that they HAVE to be good quality (not 99p specials at Tesco) and your diet/nutrition has to be good overall for the supplements to make any difference whatsoever. There is no one supplement that will have a magical effect, it's more an overall sense of improved wellbeing from being healthy.

There's no harm in taking it. I've been taking it alongside vitamins B and C occasionally. I take multivitamins regularly, though. I can't say I've noticed any change in my anxiety...

I think Magnesium is not problematic at all, however any intake of suppelements should be approved by a doctor. I did not try magnesium yet, but I have some experience with oleamide (https://liftmode.com/calming/oleamide.html). It helps me sleeping better and I think this is very important for mental health in general. It keeps the stress level down, wich is good.

I went to a nutritionist who suggested 400mg per day. I take magnesium malate as apparently it is one of the best absorbed types. I also take B vitamins, zinc and high dose iron as well as fish oil. The only difference I have noticed is a decline in mouth ulcers, which I have suffered chronically for years.

Thanks for the info.

There are so many different types of Magnesium, i hadn't even heard of the Malate type. The below article has some good information regarding the various types of Magnesium and it's uses.

Some useful info in this thread:

You need to remember that it's "elemental" magnesium that you need to count. This is a % of the total in any supplement you buy. This is one reason I think people may not find it helpful because they are under dosing without realising.
