Hello all,

As well as the dizziness I have new and horrible symptoms.

It feels like there is a big knot in my abdomen, just below my breastbone. Almost like someone is pressing on it. It's horrible! I feel sick too, especially when I wake up, and shaky all over. My stomach feels like it's churning and the knot thing makes it feel like it's hard to breathe.

I'm trying to eat regularly though it's hard when you feel sick. I'm also taking Gaviscon in case it's acidity but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I'm terrified it's stomach or oesophageal cancer....I'm trying hard to stay calm and not go rushing off to my GP as I usually would, but it's scaring the life out of me.

Can anyone help?

you have just answered why you tummy is feeling so bad. I had a real bad time for about 12 months with my tummy, Pain, feeling sick, forcing myself to eat. Evan passing blood. Anyway my GP referred me to a gastro specialist, who sent me for X-rays, Blood tests a Barium enema and a sygmoidoscopy, all this took about 8 months and on return to see the specialist nothing could really be found and was diagnosed with IBS. After all these tests and being scared stiff, I really think just mad a bad tummy that normal people ignore turned into something really bad. The tests where not really nice but was so glad I done it as once I knew there was nothing wrong, my tummy got much much better, The tummy is just one big sensitive organ and you will find 99% of people with anxieties suffer tummy problems. It’s easier said than done but it’s all the worrying that causes it. Take Care, Vernon

This describes me 100%! I tried to go out with a run for a friend today. I'm a bit overweight, and that (stupidly) adds to heart anxiety. I thought I'd go out for a bit of a jog, despite feeling a bit dizzy this morning... And I had to give up - I walked for half an hour instead. I felt so dizzy and sick, and every time I tried to jog my stomach felt all knotted - like there was a giant rock just below where my ribs stop.

I'm so angry at myself - it's easing off now and I've been home 45 minutes - so it's obviously just anxiety. So frustrating.

Nick.

Thank you so much for your replies!

I think it might be IBS...am seeing the GP tomorrow for some advice. I've resisted rushing there at the first sign of "trouble" but this time there really is something amiss.

Best wishes everyone.

Hi Blackstar,

Nausea and sickness are one of my biggest anxiety symptoms so you're by no means alone. It's usually at its worst for the first couple of hours after waking and I can also feel shakey upon waking. I've just started taking root ginger capsules which are suppost to help against nausea. You can get them from health shops.

Take care,

hi
i had really bad stomach problems and was under a consultant.after an endoscopy, suigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy it was diagnosed as part of my ptsd.the most helpful thing said to me was "there are more nerves going to the gut from the brain than there are nerves going to the spinal chord"
so if theres something emotional wrong, then its very likely to be felt in the stomach ................
kindest regards ade

Sounds like it could be acid indigestion and needs something stronger than Gaviscon to cure it

Good luck at the docs.

Hi Blackstar,
I know exactly how you feel. I get knots in my stomach when i'm worried about things generally, but when i get an attack it goes off the wire and its so painful i simply dont know what to do with myself. The Fear. I cant even move to the kitchen to get water.
Personally i've found a dose of rescue remedy is the best way to get rid of it. 4 drops under the tounge and another 4 in a glass of water drunk quickly. Works a treat! Almost instantly. I dont go anywhere without my rescue remedy.
Ades comment is really interesting.
Take care

Thank you everyone for your replies :) It's helpful to know I'm not alone and that it's another weapon in Anxiety's arsenal!

GP was very helpful too, she said it was gastritis (so not quite IBS, but close). Being an anxious type my stomach produces more acid than normal and that irritates the lining and causes the wind and pain and knots. She gave me some medicine (Omeprazole) to calm things down so hopefully I'll be feeling more upbeat in a few days! Yay! :D

Perhaps this condition accounts for other people's stomach symptoms too?

Best wishes all.

They say your stomach has it's own nervous system and anxiety/panic plays havoc with it. I'd imagine the vast majority of suufers have associated stomach problems. They're sometimes worse for me than the anxiety, especially if I'm having a rare good few days anxiety wise.
