Well, yesterday I took the amsler grid test which is used to detect things like macular degeneration (AMD, JMD e.t.c), and I saw wavy, horizontal and blurred lines. Obviously, this jarred me. So I went to the Optician immediately.

Guess what?

They took photos of the back of my eye, did a sight test and even showed me the photo of the back of my eye. It was all NORMAL.

Only worry if you see horizontal, blurred or wavy lines and have the symptoms of macular degeneration.

The Amsler Grid is weird--the lines always seem wavy to me also. Maybe because I have astigmatism? My grandmother has macular degeneration, so I go for an eye exam every year, as should anyone with a family history. It helps put your mind at ease--if caught early enough there are things that can be done to slow the progression.

Ah yes.

My mum's side also have astigmatism running in their family. Strabismus (squint) runs on both sides.

But my genes never had anything to do with macular degeneration.

I hope things go good with your tests e.t.c :-)
