View Full Version : Need help with my HA - I can't do this anymore

How do you stop yourself when you're slipping down the HA slide and just can't stop? My current fear is bowel/anal cancer and I just can't stop the bad thoughts. This is starting to cripple me. I wish I could believe that I don't have cancer but I'm losing this battle.
Any advice from anyone who has maybe been as bad as I am and got themselves out of it, without running to the doctor again for reassurance.
I really need help here, I can't do this anymore

I think, run to the doctor for help with your mental state. You are recognising your HA problems, you aren't able to currently rationalise the symptoms despite lots of reassurance and it is causing you a lot of distress (as you know I answered on your other thread a couple of times). Request referral for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ?

Thanks for those links Carys and Nicola.
I will have a look at them when i get a chance.
I'm just so withered from HA (and other stresses in my life too but they're not for this forum).
My gp has put me on the waiting list for counselling but as far as I'm aware the waiting list is fairly long. And I can't afford to go private so all I can do is wait...

I am having CBT at the moment and it really is very good. Hang in there. You will be ok

Thanks jojo - I'm glad the CBT is going well for you.
I'm doing my best to hang in there but it really is so hard at times :weep:

We have a thread going if you want to try not to google/seek reassurance for a day and declare your awesomeness or discuss anxieties or life stresses not related to particular health symptoms. It's helped me some.

I actually think people should see the doctor for things that seemed weird and persist for a few weeks (approx). I checked your history tho and I see you are freaking out about something that I consider benign and tend to totally ignore even with health anxiety.

Therapy/meds are also good, as are reducing life stresses, but I understand those take more time.

You've been given help in the only way the forum can help you. 'When you get a chance' is IMO, an excuse not to look at them :lac: If you have time to hang out on the forum and post, you have time to download some of the help available and read.

There's so much more you can do instead of "waiting"! The question is, how badly do you want to get better?

Sorry Fishman, I didn't mean to make it sound like I couldn't be arsed reading through those threads.
I just meant that I wanted to wait till I had some uninterrupted time to go through them, and when I posted that I was hopping on and off my laptop like a yoyo!!
I started reading them this morning and I'm going to stick with them, it certaintly can't make me any worse than I am at the moment.

And to answer your question, I desperately want to get better. I know it takes time and a lot of hard work, which I am prepared to do.
