View Full Version : Is this nail melanoma?

darkside4k

I'm wondering if this is the beginning of a nail melanoma? I noticed it about 2 days ago. It looks blackish and maybe very dark red around the edges when I hold light on it.

Anyone ever see anything like this?

I hope I didn’t set you off with my post about skin cancer, it is easy to judge each other’s moles as doesn’t effect us and we can see sensible and not have our fears judging the facts , honestly it looks fine and it’s not nail melanoma please get that straight out your head it’s so easy when we have a fear about cancer that we swop and change I have worried about testicular oral bowel a skin and skin and skin because this is what we can see and we notice things that change and change to us hypacondriacs is bad lol seriously it’s fine

And already someone has voted this thread 1 - Terrible. So, a 5 star from me to balance. Despair...

How do you feel about your gum, Darkside?

Gary A
18-11-17, 08:59
20 more pages of Darkside insisting he “legitimately has a lesion that can’t be anything else other than cancer”, people arguing about voting the thread up or down, people getting frustrated, people showing up in the thread to do nothing more than tell people not to comment if they’re so bothered.

Yippee. :yesyes:

tmckenzie-orr
18-11-17, 09:09
The thing is they are in a right rutt and worry about skin cancer that’s because they can see everything on there body and don’t know what’s right or wrong it’s horrible when get like that , I am being like that myself at th moment with a skin cancer worry maybe overthinking but the what if is always there which scares us then we post to help ourself out and seek reassurance but I know seeking it too much is not good, should never judge just need to help them and suggest they get cbt treatmwnt

swajj
18-11-17, 12:09
Why didn’t anyone think of that!

tmckenzie-orr
18-11-17, 12:16
They are obviously worried that’s all and it’s scary we should all be there to support as we all obviously suffering the same to be here but some people less than others

Some people "less" than others, eh?

Ellient
18-11-17, 12:49
Everyone would help but only two days ago he was convinced he had oral cancer and totally denies this is health anxiety.

You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped and there is only so much everyone can say, it doesn't look anything relativity like cancer so reassurance is pointless.

Open your eyes darkside this is health anxiety and you need get help for your poor children and wife.

Lol ok I see dark is very worried about cancer and this is why he keeps chopping and changing it’s no difference from what I was like years ago, now I think a lot more rationally but still have my moments and cbt was the change of my way of thinking hence why I SUGGESTED it , obviously I come and go on this forum so don’t know how he has been but we should all support each other we are all on different places on our journey on health anxiety better to help that’s all anyway I won’t say anything else just it’s really horrible evil anxiety ruins us

Gary,

It’s almost as if we are on a board specifically designed for people with irrational health fears and mental illness who may doubt when people reassure them and continue to believe they have diseases they don’t have. Weird!

Can't say I've seen anyone arguing over thread ratings, especially rating them up.

Whether it's this member or not, 1 page or 20, I think this is unpleasant behaviour and I'm hoping Admin might try to somehow change it hence why I'm pointing it out. It's a recent trend being used to protest from the safety of anonymity and it's a matter of time before we see OP's getting upset over it, after all it's about demeaning something or someone.

There's no place for thread ratings on mental health issues other than the positive story / tips stuff.

So you know you’re being irrational and posting about illnesses you don’t have? Excellent. Suppose we can put this thread to bed now eh?

How amazing is it that you’re this self aware all of a sudden? What progress.

Something helpful to ask yourself is, "have I ever been right?"

I do this when I have a new symptom or issue. I have never, in 30+ years of health anxiety, been right. It has always been something minor.

I have a major health issue I AM dealing with, and it had no symptoms, not indicators, no warning signs. I am lucky it didn't kill me and it was caught by a fluke. The thing about this issue is, I am not really worried about it at all.

You need help with the anxiety, urgently. I mean, call someone now.

You seem to have forgotten to admit you were wrong about your oral cancer and thank people for their assistance in trying to reassure you.

Why’s that, I wonder?

I’ve been around here for a long time, on and off. I had noticed those stars but took no notice of them. In fact, I have never seen them mentioned until this week. Then again I don’t read a lot of threads. If people want to retain the star system then it should show the member’s name and how they voted. Problem solved.

Darkside, people know ok.

It's a shame we have lost a useful thread flagging tool due to a minority of misuse but I realise you may be limited in ways to resolve it (on/off function maybe) so support your actions.

You said that last time too. And you will be saying in your next thread, I'm sure.

I know you are struggling with avoidance, not only in seeking help but in admitting you have a problem. I hope at some point you realise this, if you don't already, and start admitting it.

Man, I was really hoping after the whole oral cancer thing that you might realize that this is not healthy and you need to seek help... I guess it is just going to spiral out of control again. I truly hope you reach out to a doctor for a referral to a psychiatrist and counseling.

Only a Dr/skin specialist would know exactly what it is. It's quite tiny so that's good.

I did read in a NIH article that the nail bed doesn't have functioning melanocytes, only the nail matrix and nail fold do, so that if you see a pigment change that is not continuous all the way to the nail matrix or fold it is very unlikely / impossible to be melanoma. That does help some but I worry if this is really on the nail bed or on my thumb or something.

Carys
24-01-18, 14:23
Hiyer, well here is the thing.....we aren't doctors....so unfortunately can't give medical advice about if this is an early melanoma or not. However, I will say this getting something checked early, if you say it is early (it is tiny!!!!) would be the right thing to do. I don't know about nail melanoma or not, but have had those small black splodges and marks on my nail from time to time after small injuries that cause a tiny amount of bleeding. My personal instinct would be to monitor it for a while and see if it grows upwards as the nail grows (as an injured nail would, and as its already near the top you should see it moving), and check to see if it grows in size or any other changes occur to the nail.

darkside4k
24-01-18, 16:28
Sounds like you think it could be melanoma. :/

Carys
24-01-18, 17:04
Thats not what I said.

I've never seen a melanoma on a nail in my life, and I should imagine its pretty hard to judge what is a melanoma or what is a small nail injury, UNLESS you are a doctor who is used to seeing them. What I said was, why not just monitor it for a while...and see if it grows up with your nail as a tiny splinter sized bit of bleeding would do so in the next few weeks. I've had these before and I never even knew such a thing as nail melanoma existed!!!, so just presumed it was an injury...and low and behold they've just grown out.

Nobody in life ever knows if 'something' is 'something' that needs treating, or if they will get a medical condition, but jumping to the conclusion that this is the most unlikely scenario isn't healthy. I can't say to you what this is, I can only say what the most likely thing is from my personal opinion. I know you want a definite answer, but sometimes we can't all have a definite answer to some symptoms and tiny bodily changes or imperfections and need to learn to not turn it into the most catastrophic of outcomes.

I can see why you thought I gave the impression it might be a melanoma, because I talked about getting it checked early, I didn't mean here and now however. Monitor, watch for changes and if it gets worse or there are other symptoms then get it checked.

---------- Post added at 17:04 ---------- Previous post was at 16:40 ----------

Ummmm darkside, just a though here....I looked back in your posts....you posted a picture in November last year of a 'possibly nail melanoma'. It was on a different nail, and looked exactly like the one you have now. So....I'm guessing that one just grew out like a normal splinter nail haemorrhage?

Gary A
24-01-18, 17:10
In case you missed the question (or ignored it again), I’ll repeat it;

What help are you getting for your mental health issue?

Are you going to do anything positive with regards to your anxiety or are you quite happy to pop up on this forum every few weeks trying to get people to tell you that you have cancer?

Seriously, how many more times can this be repeated to you? How many times now have you almost demanded that you have cancer and it turned out to be nothing at all? How many times can this ridiculous process repeat?

Stop this utter idiocy, and get yourself some help.
