View Full Version : Fear I inhaled seltzer

Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum, though in my (unwise) googling during bouts of anxiety/panic/depression I’ve come across this site and it’s always the only place I find relief on the internet.

I’m currently laying in bed, awake at 3 am in NY, as I have trouble falling asleep every night. I was taking a sip of seltzer while laying down with my head up on a couple pillows and it felt like I inhaled some. It fizzed in my mouth a lot and I just have this gut feeling it “went down the wrong tube.”

Now I am feeling tight in the chest and have convinced myself I can’t breathe properly. Both of these feelings are typical of my anxiety, but so is the feeling of certainty that it’s not just my anxiety.... the wonderful cycle. When I googled, which I know I shouldn’t, I came across dry drowning and now I’m afraid to go to sleep.

I’m not sure if this will be seen by anyone before I make the attempt to fall asleep, while begging the universe that I wake up tomorrow, but I wanted to come here for support.
