View Full Version : Undercooked egg?

I decided to make some pancakes this morning (a recipe using one egg). We get our eggs from the milkman so they don’t have the lion stamp meaning that they are safe. The pancakes were slightly runny in the middle still (I made them a little too thick) so now I’m terrified of salmonella! Anyone know the risk in uncooked eggs?

Every day someone somewhere is licking the spoon after making a cake. That is completely raw egg, and those people are fine, just as you will be with a runny pancake.

You've posted a number of threads about fearing being poisoned or contaminated. Have you ever had help for these fears?

You'll be just fine. My husband and my son both make sunny side up eggs ALL the time and the yolk is practically raw, enough that my son dips his toast in it. Yuck! lol! But neither of them have ever gotten sick from it.

Gosh, I've eaten raw egg since I was little. When I was a child I used to help mam with baking and I'd always get to eat the remainder of the cake mixture in the bowl. I still do, on the rare occasion that I attempt to do any baking!

And I hate overcooked eggs, so poached eggs are always nice and runny, same with boiled eggs (can't dip em' if they're not :D )

It's not done me any harm. So, I'm sure you will be fine. :)

Actually, I heard about a study done recently which said that raw eggs are no longer considered as hazardous as they once were. I can’t remember the reason why, unfortunately (something to due with higher cleanliness standards or some such). But either way, you’re fine.

It's always best to follow what our food safety regs state. If they don't have concerns, we know we are safe.

I’ve had multiple bouts of different therapies, but recently I finished hypnotherapy which has helped loads! I’m working on trying to post less as I still get a few fears regarding sickness.

Glad somebody else thought of that, too!

I'd love to hear more about the hypnotherapy, Tilly. What was it like?

I think hypno is brilliant! It’s incredibly relaxing and has fab results, and although it doesn’t work for some people it’s well worth a try just for the relaxation factor! You’ll come out feeling like you’ve had the best nap of your life!
