My mother has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness. It wasn't unexpected as she has been poorly for some time, I think we knew it would happen.
What I can't get my head around is the physical symptoms I am having. My chest hurts, my arms, shoulders and neck ache. Internally it's like a washing machine going round. I feel like I'm about to have a heart attack. Is this usual?
I don't know how to get rid of these symptoms, I need to be well to cope with looking after my mother. I have barely cried, just feel physically ill.

Hi Pansy,
I'm really sorry to hear about your Mum.
All the symptoms you're having are entirely normal because our body reacts to emotions they're very closely linked.
I think that the best thing would be to accept that these symptoms are just sensations caused by the emotions you are experiencing not a physical illness. Some relaxation techniques that you enjoy like progressive muscle relaxation or mindfulness may provide some relief.
Very best wishes
