View Full Version : Full blown colon cancer panic after doing so well

I haven't been on here for a while as I was doing SO well, until this week.

On Monday when I wiped after a bowel movement I noticed a streak of blood. I didn't think much of it as I get that sometimes. The next day there was a LOT of blood, much more than I have had before.

I took myself to the doctor who did a digital exam and put some kind of scope inside and said I had a haemorrhoid and prescribed me suppositories. I am newly pregnant (6 weeks) so I can't use them as they're potentially dangerous to the baby so I decided to just see how I went.

Yesterday, no blood. Today - back to blood, a fair amount. Now I am in a full blown colon cancer panic and have been on Google ALL day. I know when people say the blood is bright red that's usually indicative of something near the anus but this isn't always true and it CAN be a sign of colorectal cancer.

I have worked myself up so much that I have booked a very expensive appointment with a gastroenterologist on Tuesday. But as I am pregnant, I won't be able to have a colonoscopy due to the prep/sedation required. I am hoping she will agree to a flexible sigmoidoscopy to at least see in as far as they can.

I am so upset this is happening, I've already had 2 weeks of a possible ectopic pregnancy and now this. WHY does there have to be blood?

There is blood because you have piles - that is all - it is not cancer.

I agree with this. If they’ve told you you have piles then you have piles. It’s very common in pregnant women so I really wouldn’t worry if you’ve already been looked at and they found one. They can bleed a fair amount so don’t panic.

Def piles. Trust me. I had a sigmoid last August for bright red. Nothing was found. Pregnancy puts a strain on your vessels down there. You’re fine
