Croaky voice after layrengitis

About 6 weeks ago I got a horrible virus. After a week I lost my voice . I know I should have rested it but I didn’t. After a week and a bit my voice came back but was croaky. Now although I’m much improved if I use my voice a lot it becomes rough. My brother died from throat cancer and I’m terrified I have the same .
The anxiety is over whelming. I’ve seen my GP who believes it is because of the virus and I have to go back in a couple of weeks of not improved. Can anyone help me ?
