Hi guys,

I feel really run down recently due to some other health problems and my family's lack of understanding about it. It's causing me a great deal of stress to be honest as I seem to have developed a condition called retinitis pigmentosa. I'm waiting to see a specialist regarding this and this condition causes a slow loss of vision and can be very serious in many cases. I feel like I have so many worries at the moment and admittedly I haven't dealt with them correctly as I drank alcohol wednesday to Friday. My hypochondria and anxiety have been quite high and I keep worrying about my heart due to this stress and a couple of other medical conditions. I'm also worrying about my weight at the moment as I have been putting on a bit due to lack of exercise (that's another story). Basically I also have a condition which can cause me to have an allergic reaction if I eat the wrong food then exercise after. This food hasn't been identified yet.Due to all this, I haven't been at work etc so this is causing tension at home and in turn more stress on me. So I've been thinking about going onto anti depressants again, but surprise surprise I'm worried about taking them as I was at a party last November and did drugs (Mdma to be precise). I know its been 5 months and it is probably out of my system by now but I'm wondering if it is dangerous to start on anti depressants after doing that. I stopped taking them around April last year. Sorry for the long winded post, it's just unfortunately a complex situation and there was no way of making that shorter really.

Thanks

Kieron.

Hi kieron! Sounds like you have a lot going on. I had come off antidepressants (duloxetine) and was feeling really tired and lethargic all the time and thought that I had coped better with things when on them. I decided to restart but have to say it did make me feel worse the first few weeks - my anxiety levels went through the roof and I stopped sleeping. I think part of the problem was I went back onto the same dose I had been on which was maybe too high from nothing. But I am very sensitive to medications it seems so others might not find the same thing. I think it’s definitely worth considering restarting with your doctor. How did you find starting them the last time? Do you think they helped you deal with stressful situations better? Exercise is also supposed to be really good in helping with depression although it’s hard when your energy is low! Hope things improve for you soon.

Thanks for the response, yeah it's something I'm considering as really bad at the moment. The only thing prolonging it for me was the fear of restarting and having a dangerous reaction due to the mdma I took in Nov 2017. That's nearly half a year now so would it be safe to take the tablets. I read combining SSRIs and mdma can be dangerous however it didn't say explicitly if that was at the same time or generally

Apparently serotonin syndrome can happen when the two are taken together. Is 6 months sufficient time to avoid this combination and be safe ?. Thanks mate
