So I came down feeling like I had a cold at the weekend, and thought Ah well ya a cold! But I noticed my glands are up, and not your average lymph nodes! I had one come up on my chest, which isn’t much bigger than a pea, ur just the place where it is and how tender it felt got me so worked up, it feels a tiny bit hard but not rock hard and can move a bit, but I’m 19 and so scared it’s something serious, I feel like I have the flu coming as I’m coughing and have a sore throat, is the virus a possible cause doen the node in this area???

Go see a doctor. It probably isnt anything serious.

If it's small and tender, it is probably not anything to be worried about.

I went to see a doctor today, he said some of my glands are up due to infection and a virus, but as for the one on my chest he said it’s bome, but I 100% know it’s not an it feels like a lump, it’s painful to touch as I’ve been prodding and I’m so scared, please tell me what to do

Not sure we can question what a doctor says to be honest.

Why did you not tell him you didn't think it was bone?

Mb16
20-06-18, 17:47
The doctor had a good firm feel of where I said the lymph node is, and told me it’s bone, but it’s just worrying me so much! I don’t know if it’s possible for a virus to affect glands on the chest but I have a real bad virus at the moment, I’m so scared of it being lymphoma as I’m so young! I keep having breakdowns because I think it will be really bad

I’m sure it’s from you being sick. Quit messing with it as it will
Keep it sore and big. Leave it alone and give it a couple of weeks to go down. Don’t freak out.

I didn’t know it was possible for a virus/flu to effect a gland in your chest, I’ve jusy read so many things about lymphoma etc and convinced myself I must have it, and I’m just so scared

It's not a gland. It's BONE!

You have a virus. Sorry you're feeling bad but it will pass. Rest and plenty of fluids.

The worst thing I did was google stuff about certain lymph nodes, and because mine is on my chest I got extremely worried that it is lymphoma! Now I can’t get the thought out of my head, I will try and leave it alone and wait for the virus to pass and maybe go back to the doctor! I’m just scared because of what serious issues it could potentially be

nomorepanic

You do not have lymphoma at all.

Surely if the doctors thought I could have it from describing how I feel and where my glands are up they’d say something right? I’m just so scared but thanks, my symptoms are things a sore throat, bit of a cough, temperature that’s on and off, a bit of a throat infection, achey muscles and my anxiety is a lot worse! This is why I’m so concerned!

I’ve literally worried myselr to the point of a breakdown over all this, I just hope nothing is seriously wrong with me! I’ve looked into it too much on google and stressed 24/7 about it! I think the fact I feel so ill as well with this virus has made my anxiety worse so that doesn’t help, the gland wasn’t even there until the virus became worse as it only started with a sore throat

Scass

It doesn’t really seem like you’re listening to your doctor or anyone on here, but you need to stop spiralling and start to deal with this anxiety.

I would recommend you start by logging off the internet & putting down your phone or keyboard. Go for a walk, do some cooking, have a bath, phone a friend, play a game. Anything, just stop. You are fine.

You’re right I do think that would help, it’s jusy that it doesn’t get rid of the fact the lymph node is on my chest, that’s the only thing worrying me! The first doctor I saw didn’t seem very sure about it but said he’d put it down to viral infection, the hospital just checked me up and referred me to a GP who today didn’t seem too cncerener about it and told me to rest and get fluids, but I feel a little better now

I do trust the doctor, just having the anxiety I do I question, what if he didn’t feel the right place? What if he missed the gland and thought I was talking about something else? Cos to me it feels like a moveable lump not a rib bone

If it was bone why would it feel like that, why will it feel like an enlarged gland and painful to touch, I just don’t get it

I've had a mystery virus, and have had nodes swell up in both my neck and groin. One on my neck hurt and it was really bugging me, but it went down after about a week.

Leave it alone and your's will too.

If it hurts, it is probably fighting the infection/virus and isn't cancer.

Okay that’s made me feel a bit better, it only hurts to touch sometimes and can feel the odd ache. It’s not a permanent pain but I don’t know if that matters? It’s also movable and isn’t too firm, not pebble like it’s more like a rubbery texture

---------- Post added at 20:30 ---------- Previous post was at 20:26 ----------

Just to reassure myself I’m going to get my main GP’s opinion tomorrow who helps me with my anxiety and problems, hopefully he says the same as you guys and I’m starting to call myself down, seeing as my dad had flu last week and I feel like I’ve came down with it this week, and the lump them appeared it’d make sense it’s just fighting the virus

---------- Post added at 20:36 ---------- Previous post was at 20:30 ----------

ALSO thank you guys for your opinions, I just read so many forums on here which filled my head with negative thoughts! I’ll try and take your advice on board and leave the gland alone and see if it goes

Quick question, my muscle around the lymph node on my chest is now really tender and achey, is this normal at all?

Until then, leave it alone and stay off google.

Yeh I really am trying, trying to calm myself down and not get in a panic about it, it’s just scary! Like I’m so scared it’s serious even though eveeyone haa told me it’s not! I need to get my anxiety sorted

Mb16
21-06-18, 12:16
Okay so today I went to my GP, he felt the lump on my chest and said it’s absolutelty nothing to worry about and said it’s not a lymph node as you don’t get them there, he said it’s just a bit of a notch where my chest/ribs are and has become irritated and painful because I’ve been poking and prodding it! So therefore I have no reason to worry as that’s 3 doctors now who are not concerned by it! I didn’t know me constantly checking it could make it become so painful to touch

Mb16
21-06-18, 22:02
So recently I did a post concerning what I thought was a lymph node on my chest, but I’ve had 2 doctors tell me it’s part of my chest and nothing to worry about! But I don’t understand now why the part of the chest is bigger and more painful than the same part on the opposite side? I’ve had flu I don’t know if this isn’t anything to do with it, but I’m jusy concerned

---------- Post added at 22:02 ---------- Previous post was at 21:18 ----------

I’m so worried atm, I found what I thought was a swollen lymph node and have came down with flu like symptoms, I’ve been to see multiple doctors! Both GP’s I saw said I have a virus and the lump is part of my chest, but why is it swollen and painful? It hurts to touch it and my chest wall around it is tender too! I’m so so scared, my doctor said you don’t get lymph nodes at the top of the chest just slightly to the right where your ribs meet? Which is where the lump is but it’s just brining so scary now.

I’m just so worried, I’ve had multiple doctors tell me it’s not a lymph node and not to worry, but I’m still scared as it is still a painful lump, I have the same feel on the same place on the other side of my chest but it’s not swollen and painful! I just don’t know what it could be, I’m just worked up because I feel so ill with this cold/flu and my whole body has aches and pains.

They're small? Good!

Came up quickly = probably fighting an infection.

Not painful = doesn't matter, most of mine were painless except for one.

Movable = good! It's the stiff ones you've got to worry about, and even then I've got 2 of those that I've had for years, they're behind each of my ears.

I’m really trying my hardest to distract myself and wait until I can go back to my GP and discuss this fear with him! I’ve massively overthought things like what if all my symptoms aren’t flu/virus and are cancer, or what if the doctor missed something! I’ve gradually been getting better over the week apart from the odd feeling of nausea!

I’ll go see the GP about my fears and that lump on Monday, I’ll try and recover from this virus, and I’ll stop checking and prodding as it won’t change anything apart from making it more painful/tender! Thanks for the help and I’m going to do those work sheets and read through them etc. This has all been a massive reality check, I have to think logically rather than think worst case scenario!

25-06-18, 08:38
Just a quick update guys, I’ve just saw my GP and he checked me up as I said I’m scared of having something bad, he felt my glands and said some will be up because of my virus! He said he’s not concerned at all but said would a blood test or scan make me feel better? So I said if he’s not concerned for my health and it’s not necessary I don’t think I need one, so we both agreed I have to try and forget about it!

And as for the lump on my chest he said it’s muscle fibre from my pecs, that’s why it feels moveable!

And also I mentioned that my armpits were a bit tender before my virus and I felt like my glands were up, he felt them and said there’s nothing there at the minute and the tenderness can be normal.

The only thing I don’t get is I have 1 or 2 glands on my neck have always been up? Like they are always that size, but I have a lot of sinus issues and sinus infections so could that be the cause? They’re soft and moveable and always have been, I’m also young and very slim so that may play a part?

ThroatGoat
25-06-18, 15:18
I would have gotten the scan and blood test if I were you (that's just me :D), but if your doctor isn't concerned then you shouldn't be either!

That makes sense, your doctor already told you it wasn't a node!

I had the tender armpits feeling a couple of times, couldn't feel any nodes there either though. (Thankfully!)

I've got 2 perma-nodes myself, behind each of my ears. They are hard and immovable but they've not killed me. So even hard and immovable ones can be normal and harmless. The fact your's are soft and movable means they're even less likely to be anything serious.

Do you have anyone in your family with Lipomas? It could also be them, they're harmless little fatty deposits that feel similar to nodes, but they're not. I've got them too.

Mb16
25-06-18, 17:24
Well I can always go back and get it done if something concerns me in future, I’m going to try and recover from my virus and see how things go, I’ve felt tired today but been and excersided and sweater a lot of it out of me but stayed well hydrated! Feeling better but I’m sure I’ll qche a lot more from the exercise!

And well my doctor felt my armpits and said there’s not too much there and said the tenderness/odd pain when moving it is normal so!

But anyway it’s not like the doctor insisted on a scan because he’s concerned anyway it was just to try and make me feel better maybe because he knows there’s nothing wrong? So what’s the point in wasting the time

Mb16
26-06-18, 19:46
So the lymph nodes in my armpit are up a little and hurt if my armpit is pressed against my side etc. Why is this, and I’ve had this before but didn’t take notice but why would they be up

So the lymph nodes in my armpit are up a little and hurt if my armpit is pressed against my side etc. Why is this, and I’ve had this before but didn’t take notice but why would they be up

It's probably your virus doing it.

If they hurt that usually means they're fighting something too.

I always like to read this post when I'm having a bout of "nodephobia": http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=197713

And also this post by Fishmanpa:

We have 500-700 nodes in our bodies. Poke and prod enough and you're bound to find a few. They can vary in size from less than a BB to 2cm and that's "normal".

Poking and prodding can and does cause swelling. Too much can make them permanently swollen (shotty).

Most people have no clue what they're feeling nor can accurately gauge the size. Even trained medical professionals cannot 100% accurately do so without the help of ultrasounds or CT scans.
