Hi

I have had the most awful week.

My 8 year old son was in hospital over the weekend with severe tonsillitis, fever over 40C and a high heart rate.

He has been taking antibiotics since Friday.

His tonsil are still bad.

The antibiotics finish tomorrow.

Any idea on how long tonsillitis can last?

DO i need to get more antibiotics?

Thank you xx

I think you should give the GP a call & ask for him to be reviewed. I would imagine it depends on the child & their tonsils tbh!

My 16 year old had tonsillitis for the first time last year. His tonsils were extremely swollen. He was on antibiotics (tablets) and being given antibiotics by injection daily. There was no improvement whatsoever. The doctor said he was probably going to have to go in hospital to be given stronger antibiotics but she decided to give him steroids for 3 days. His tonsils returned to normal size in 2 days.

Ugghh... sorry to hear that :weep: I'd definitely check with the doctor. If this becomes a chronic issue, having them removed should be discussed. Better to do it young rather than as an adult. I can personally attest to that (two times!).

Hope he feels better soon!
