Hi Guys, just need to vent.
Another year of looking after ageing parents, doesn't help as they live 40 miles away from me and 40 miles from each other.

I do try and understand, it'll come to me eventually .... BUT, Damn it!! sometimes they drive you crazy:w00t2:

Can't old age be fun? ..... does it have to be Victor Meldrew and One Foot in the Grave!?:lac:

Does every phone call have to start with 30 minutes of detail about bowel movement and arthritis?

Dave (I don't believe it!!) Meldrew

Yep....'fraid so Victor !!

And you have to repeat everything at least three times....

...and when you raise your voice so they can hear first time, you're told "you don't have to shout...I'm not deaf !"

Never mind mate, try and take up an outside interest to take your mind off it.......blokes do belly dancin' as well you know lol !!!

big huggeroonies for you oh long-suffering one :winks:

Hi Dave,

sorry but your post made me smile....:)

My mum used to tell the same story about 5 times (in one sitting) before it would sink in that we already had heard it.

She thought old age gave her the right to be outspoken (almost to the point of rudeness) to complete strangers...about anything from their dress sense to their hair!

She insisted on calling us all by each others names (I swear some of this was deliberate lol!)

She felt the need to strike up converstaions with strangers...always beginning with 'I'm almost 78 you know...!'

She flirted shamelessly with all the checkout boys and shelf stackers in the supermarket but ran as fast as her stick would take her when the elderly man from across the road invited her to 'listen to some music'....she had her windows and doors bolted quicker than you could say 'blue rinse' lol!

And you knew if she began a sentence with 'dont take this the wrong way but...' that you were about to be insulted big time lol!

She did become somewhat obsessive about bowel habits and her appetite...a quirk now shared by my elderly mother in law!

She had a firm belief that telephones consisted of one way traffic...if we didnt call her then she would huff for Britain:lac: ....and god help us, if on the one occasion she did call, the line was busy or we were out!

I feel for you Dave, cos joking aside I know its difficult and incredibly frustrating caring for older people....so feel free to rant....even though it really will be us one day lol!

luv Coni XX:hugs:

Thanks Ladies, interesting reading your comments and stories, glad I'm not alone.
Took dad to Hospital today, when in front of the specialist he played it all down, I could have throttled him !! lol:blush: I'd travelled 40 miles to be there and sort things out.

Hey, no probs, deep breaths, top up that wine glass :whistles: xx
