Hey Everyone,

I have been putting on weight over the last 3 months and decided to get myself back to the gym and get fit again,, i have been sufffering with ectopics for the last 2 years now and there still ruining my life totally.

I spent an hour in the gym lifting weights, and concentrating on toning rather than cardio workout. I then spent half an hour non stop swimming, then 15 minutes in the sauna and then 15 mins in the spa.

Since doing this i have had ectopics all day,, i mean i must have had 200 noticeable big skipped/gained beats. Its driving me crazy, now im concerned that if i keep going to the gym and getting fit its going to kill me with a random heart attack or something.

Does anyone else get them after workouts or activity??????

Any guidance please??

Sean

I get them if i do nothing and also if i do something, so we just can't win really can we. But i was told not to let it stop you or bother you, they are harmless, of course if you have had them checked out by a doctor and they have said that this is what they are first. I've seen a cardiologist and had many ecg's and a three day holter monitor and they didn't pick up any ectopics at the time, but he said he thinks that i'm having them and he said that his surgery is full of people all the time that are having these and they are fine, benign and harmless. But they bother me like crazy too. They do ruin my life each day, but we have got to learn to ignore them, huh, easier said than done. I also know that we are not alone and that there are many people out there that can have thousands and thousands in a day, and i'm not that bad most of the time, thank goodness. I remember before i got really ill that we were looking after a running machine until it was sold and i used to go on that each night for a while. I always had ectopic beats during and after, that was about 2 years ago. Still getting them and have been for the past 12 years. They haven't hurt me yet and i've been told that they won't - at all. I have also learned since then that to have things like this, or an irregular heart beat, benign irregular i mean, is actually a good thing. And it can also mean good vagus tone, which apparently is a good thing too.
But i totally sympathise with you about them, they are the bane of my life!xx

Hi Angiebaby,

I have had several echos, a 24 hr holter and a 7 day holter, hundreds of blood tests, x-rays, barium meal, seen specialists of all fields, they all say the same that there just ectopics and they wont hurt u,, getting this into my head is a different thing,,, i have spent 20 odd years of my life without these then all of a sudden 2 years ago they started out of the blue,, my mind tells me that this means something has changed inside me that is causing them which cant be a good thing and therefore means there IS something wrong. Like i said its very difficult to get these thoughts from my mindset. They genuinely are destroying my life in the fact there they fill me with fear and i get so angry and frustrated that im having them i see myself as not being normal anymore and craving just to be how i was before i was getting the ectopics. I have been prescribed antenol betablockers but after reading the a4 size list of side effects i am now to nervous to take them!!! For me its an evil circle that i cant get out off.

Thanks for listening

hi Sean
I know how you feel i too started having these over a year a go now and i have the horrible things every day! I think i have only noticed one day without them im with you when although you have been told they wont kill you they ruin your life and we just long to be how we were before
As for exercise i once got rushed to a&e from the gym after an aerobic workout my heart just went into a weird long episode of feeling like it was not beating at all missing loads of beats it was honestly the most scariest thing that ever happened to me needless to say they were not that concerned at the hospital! I am going through a bad patch at the moment feeling that i am going to just drop down dead with them
all i can say is keep up the exercise it is supposed to help them
take care carol

Hi Carol,

I know its nice good is it,, i have had times in the past were i have been having palpitations and then ectopics as well and i have had tp physcally cough to get my heart going again,,, this more than likely isnt the case but thats what it felt like. I have back to the gym this morning for anhour session,, a little less intense than yesterdays and so far im not to bad i have had a few but normally i notice them when im having a ciggarette. Which is another thing i need to quit as the smoking defiantely isnt helping.

Have you been screened for anthing i.e Echos, Tests??????? If so what was the outcome.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi yes i have had an echo which was normal 24 hour tape which picked up loads of missed beats but the cardiologist is not worried about them so basically have to live with them! But when you get alot of them or the scary ones that are so long it just makes you want to go back to the doctors but what will they say same old story its not going to kill you they are not the ones having to deal with it!!
I have just been for a 5 mile bike ride and still here so must be ok:)
keep up the exercise and deffinatly give up the fags there the worst for your heart

Ectopics - tell me about them! don't get me start I get thousands a day. Several per minute.

I have been told this is okay. Well I don't really believe that either but it might make you feel better.

But it is normal to have them before, at the start and after excercise. My cardiologist told me you need to get your heart rate right up to its maximum with aerobic activity and the ectopics are just paced out by the part of your heart that usually sets the pace. I had a stress test and this was the case and all apparently normal.

Good luck and hope this info helps

Nope you arent going to die that easy..If so I would have been dead 52 years ago..One thing to watch out for before you get out and exercise..Dont drink caffine beverages this goes for coke or diet coke or coffee..Nothing that will give you gas.. ..Try to wait hours after you ate but long before you are hungry and then exercise..Make sense..? I lived with this all my life and still do so its not going to kill you ..

Somedays when im really tired and been drinking coffee or hungry or ate before I exercise then i get them real bad.. Sometimes im sure i get them when i dont know ..a nurse friend of mine says everybody gets them all the time some notice others dont but rest assured everyone gets them

I just got two while typing this but of course i just ate and didnt burp..sorry to be crude but thats it..Im tired and had an anxious day and that contributes as well ..Also reading that someone else getting them doesnt help either.

I had a nurse friend over one night..and her husband we had wonderful seafood yet i was afraid to eat.She kept asking me why i was taking my pulse. My heart was missing every other beat ..I bet that i missed 40 out of 60 beats.>

She said stop worrying and start eating .I was so nervous I couldnt. It was the worse night of my life..I got up and went to the bathroom and counting my pulse I swear I think my pulse stopped and then beat five beats crazy feeling and started beating missed beats again

She kept asking me what i was worried about..i told her my heart stopping..she said dont worry if it does im here ill restart it..Well I have to tell you that was the worse night of my life. After they left my heart setttled down and then missed only occassional beats for the next hours till I went to sleep..So well.Just thought I would give you some insight on yours.

Believe me I have suffered this all my life mentioned it to many many doctors all shrugging their shoulders and saying its normal..So in other words....the less you try to notice I think the less you will and if you do what i said about eating and drinking and stuff before you exercise I think you will come out a lot better.. So i more positive today,, i actually felt (Dare I say It) very relaxed after the gym when i was driving home.
