Hi,

I am new to this forum and am was hoping to shed light on my anxiety in relation to Asbestos.

I purchased a house 3 years ago and the survey never mentioned asbestos. I have since discovered that we have Amosite (brown asbestos) in the integral garage ceiling which I had sampled.

This has pretty much ruined my enjoyment of the house and have come to the conclusion that I have put my children at risk just having the asbestos there. I have been told by different stories by different people. Some telling me that its safe to have it in situ provided in good condition (which it is) others telling me that I am insane to have that type of asbestos in the house with young children. I am crippled by the fear by what damage may have already been done.

My wife on the other is hand it totally the opposite and is not concerned at all, I will not let the children even enter the garage and I am concerned that their toys will gather asbestos dust and that the damage has already been done. Also as it is integral everytime someone comes in and out of the house it will bring loose fibres in. It has totally depressed me and stopped me from doing things I used to enjoy as I feel I should never have brought my children into this house and had I known about it in the first place would never have bought the house.

I have had an air test done and they came back ok, however this has not eased my fears and I fear I have contaminated the whole house. I had it painted to encapsulate it but again not eased the fear, not sure even removing it would as I worry that there will then be more loose fibres around from removal..

I had an asbestos survey done and its nowhere else aprt from the sofitts.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
