I've been getting discomfort between my xiphoid process (bottom of sternum) and under my left ribcage for maybe a couple of years now. The spot near the xiphoid is tender to the touch and the discomfort seems to come at random, despite how much or when I eat.

Is this simply a diet issue? Maybe too much slouching at my desk? What could this be? I'm especially worried about spleen and liver enlargement, but from what I can tell they don't display themselves this way, and if it were either one of them, I'd probably be feeling more than tenderness by now.

I appreciate any help.

It could be costochondritis ( inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone, or sternum). The condition causes localized chest pain that you can reproduce by pushing on the cartilage in the front of your rib cage.
