Ok so last year in July, I woke up one morning and the left side of my jaw was stuck in place. I tried everything to get it open but it wouldn't budge so I immediately made an appointment with the top jaw specialist/surgeon at my dentist office.

He gave me muscle relaxers, advised me to put heat on it, made me a custom nightguard and assured me it would open again in no time... Haha... Right.

Despite me following all his orders it NEVER OPENED. I tried a physical therapist and it still didn't budge. It's been over a year that my left jaw is stuck in place.

I've been able to cope with it because the right side of my jaw was mobile so at least I could somewhat open my mouth to eat, brush my teeth, etc.

BUT just two days ago I woke up and guess what. The RIGHT side of my jaw was stuck closed too! Panic ensued. Literally my entire mouth is shut closed now and I cannot get it open. I've already made an appointment with him again but understandably my hopes aren't too high because he couldn't even help me get the first side open, let alone two.

I seriously cannot survive like this and I'm worried my mouth will never open again based on my track record. Also I'm currently trying to get over a flu and feel very nauseous so I'm worried if I vomit it won't be able to get out of my mouth quickly enough... Choking hazard?

I've been dreading for this to happen.

Anyone who has suffered from bad TMJ or had their mouth stuck closed before please help me... :scared15: I've read every article and watched every youtube video out there but none of it is working!!

Since you have tried everything for a year and it haven't got better but worse, you should push your dentist for a disc surgery. You'll need time to recover from it, of course, but once you do your problem will be solved for good.

Actually from my research it seems a majority of disc surgeries are unsuccessful and most dentists try to avoid them at all costs. Once it's done it's permanent and there's too big a chance it'll just worsen the condition. If the success rates weren't so low I'd practically dive into surgery! Thank you for your comment though, I'll still make sure to see what my dentist says about such surgery.

I know a person who had it and is doing fine, problem solved for her. Of course, what your dentist says will be the final word, but, since your problem doesn't go away, I just thought it could also be an avenue worth exploring.

Anyway, whatever the treatment, I wish you a speedy recovery.
