So this morning I woke up and was ok but must have fallen back to sleep for half an hour, when I woke up again I couldn’t see out of my left eye. It went back to normal after a couple of minutes I had a headache all day yesterday and I’m now worrying something serious is going on. I didn’t panic at the time as I think when I wake up my amygdala isn’t online yet lol. But now I’ve had time to sit and think and worry, I’m working myself up because it’s my eyesight you know? I’ve had the same type of thing before when I’ve been looking at my phone in the dark and squinting but I hadn’t been looking at my phone this time. Do you think I could have been sleeping with my eye squished by my hand on the pillow? Could that have caused it somehow?

Yes 100%
Last month I had something similar my sight was gone for a minute in one eye like when you rub it really hard. I freaked out but when it came back I was relieved.

When you say you were blind in one eye, what exactly do you mean? Was it completely black in one eye, blurry, odd colour? What exactly was obscuring your vision?

I don’t know what was obscuring my vision but it was like grey and hazy in the middle and I could slightly see a bit around the edges. Obviously I could see with my right eye but when I closed my right eye that’s all I could see with my left

Was it when you woke up? Did you find out what happened?

Sounds like your eye ball was being squashed while you were asleep.

That happened to me once when I was wearing a sleep mask . I woke up and could barely see anything out of both eyes. It was not fun. Took about 15 minutes for my eyeballs to go back to normal again.

Thanks Joe you always seem to have the right things to say :)

I would like to know more details about the headache and its duration, also about the blindness, was the eye actually closed or was it open and not functional? What % of vision would you say it had? Also, has this happened since?

Hi there. If you had a headache your eye problem might be migraine related. I sometimes go blind on my left eye exactly as you describing. I was tested for everything under the sun in Moorfields eye hospital. They couldn't find anything wrong with my eye and with my general health. So my diagnosis is now retinal migraine and I was referred to a neurologist who confirmed this diagnosis.

There is also an optical migraine aura which strikes before the actual headache appears. This makes you go blind or see weird objects. But as I understand it (and I have googled and researched that extensively because of my worries with my eye) this would affect both eyes and not only one.

Anyway, both conditions are absolutely harmless I have been told by the specialists.
