View Full Version : Stomach cramps and bloating when I wake up. Don't want to Google

I went to the toilet afterwards and actually felt better so I'm trying to logically put it down to IBS, but any kind of pain makes me freak out. I have a really low pain threshold too, so I don't know if it's as bad as I think. It was uncomfortable cramping, but not like crippling. And it was definitely relieved by going to the toilet. But it's still lingering a little

Could also be a food intolerance, but I have no idea what

Hi! Sounds like IBS. What worries you about this?

I heard a dr on the radio awhile back... "we must give the body a chance to heal itself"

Hit me like a ton of bricks.

It sounds to me like a little bit of a temporary digestion issue, I am sure it will pass.

I am very proud of you for not googling! !

Just worried about it being more sinister. Don't even want to Google what

Right now I'm just kinda expecting the cramps to come back. Like I'm almost willing it

IBS is very common. Especially a "morning rush" like you describe. I've had IBS for about eight years and this was my main symptom.

I'm not too sure why this symptom overly worries you (haha, coming from me!) but see your doctor if it gets worse or continues to bother you.

You literally described textbook IBS. Good luck

Think my worry is that it's something worse

But the cramps and pain is always there same. And it's usually only before I go to the toilet. I'm just so focused on it right now that I'm almost expecting to get a cramp again if that makes sense. Like I'm willing it. Not intentionally though

Bingo!! We can use that reminder often.

OP - One of the "weapons in my arsenal" that I've developed with my therapist, that seems like a good tool in this situation is "procrastinating the worry". Basically, you notice that you have a worrisome symptom, just as you've done. Then you start thinking about it a lot, as you are doing. But you're not super panicky about it, you haven't googled, you're just concerned and doing 'what ifs'. So you do still have some control. At this point the idea is to put that worry on the shelf for a set amount of time. You're not even trying to rationalize that your worry is wrong, just that you will resume your worry at a future time/date and in the meantime you get on with life.

So if this were me I would resolve to put this worry on the shelf for one week. You may very well feel the symptoms tomorrow, or the next day, etc., but you still just remind yourself that you can't worry about it for the full week.

Then, if the symptoms are still there a week later, you can allow yourself some worry, and take appropriate action (like schedule a doc appt). Chances are that the symptoms will be gone (whether from healing or from less anxiety) and you might even forget all about it by then.

Idk if this will work for you but it has helped me before and it's what I would do in this spot.
