I have recently given up smoking, and have developed shortness of breath, this has been diagnosed as fibrosis of the lungs (apparently nothing to do with smoking according to my consultant. I have now started to panic before going upstairs, panting and my legs not wanting to move. As I live by myself, I am becoming frightened to leave the house; and the whole thing is begining to ruin my life.

Hi Larry

You have got yourself into a state haven't you.

As a person who knows nothing [:I] - It sounds to me that The fibrosis is causing the shortness of breath, and exercise difficulties (such as trying to make it up the stairs).

Has the doctor given you any medication to help you?
Such as Prednisone or an inhaler.

Not being able to breathe is scary at the best of times so it is understandable that you are going to feel even more fearful about doing everyday tasks especially when you are suffering with a perminant shortness of breath.

You should try and keep as active as possible.
Take stairs very slowly and one at a time. Stop and rest.
Don't try and sprint ! Take things nice and slowly.
My mum has been known to sit on the stairs and shuffle down them.

Hang in there hun and try not to be afraid.
Just remember to do things little and often and rest.

Love, light and Best wishes

With hard work and determination and all the things you know.
The world is there for you to take. There's nowhere you can't go.

Hi

I don't know much about fibrosis. Is this a symptom of it - getting breathless.

Are you getting any medication etc for it.
