View Full Version : Blood on stool

The past week or so, on occasion, I will have a decent amount of blood when I wipe with my stool. It's enough to be alarming. In my head, I'm fairly certain it's probably internal hemorrhoids, but my body is just not listening to my head, as usual. I cannot honestly say my bowel habits are different. I take a medication (for PCOS) that messes with your bowel, so I can't really go by that. I had a colonoscopy 3 years ago which found nothing, not even a polyp. Had a flex sigmoidoscopy early last year which found nothing.

I do know that most of the time, colon cancer is slow growing, but there is that "most of the time" sticking in my head. I have an appt with my gastro next week (I figure, even if it isn't anything serious and only hems, I will see about having them banded). But in the mean time, as usual, kind of freaking out. It really did seem like a startling amount of blood. Has happened probably 6 or 7 times now in the last week.

Once hemorrhoids flare up, they bleed a lot and take a while to go down. You had colonoscopy 3 years ago, having one every 10 prevents 99% of cancers...what does that tell you?

It's always a bit alarming to see blood, but if it's normal red blood it's very unlikely to be anything worse than a nasty case of the 'roids, even more so if you were checked out a couple of years ago.
