So are you seeing the specialist who will sort a scan or a scan then see the specialist?

This would be my view. Because you have raised liver function blood tests and you've had an ultrasound which showed gallstones, the will wan't a CT, MRI or MRCP to make sure that you haven't got any gallstones blocking your gallbladder bile duct.

Gallstones/gallbladder problems often throw out your liver function blood tests as it's the organ that stores the bile from your liver before it squeezes the bile into your small intestine. If you have stones or another gallbladder problem it backs all your system up.

I know alot about this as i'm going through something similar. Are you being referred to a gastro?

Normally a liver specialist comes under a gastro. If you look on your hospital NHS website it will say gastrointestinal and liver services.

I'm going for a nuclear scan of my liver, gallbladder and bile ducts tomorrow. It was arranged by a gastro.

Yeah, when something is raised consistently...they need to scan, at least in USA. If you knew what the "something" is, I could provide what a possible cause would be. The way you describe it, I bet your something was ALT levels, which are sometimes elevated in fatty liver...very common really. Fatty liver is caused by being chubby :)

Ye I've already had a scan and been told I have a fatty liver just don't know why they want me to do another one all she said was. She did another blood test when she found out I had fatty liver and because of that blood test I need a more in-depth scan

Well ultrasound is not a good scan for liver. You most likely will be getting CT scan for liver...but I don't really know why

Care to explain this comment? What's your reasoning?

Yes, please explain. It's a superficial organ that sits just below the abdominal wall... a U/S can see it very clearly.

Obviously depending on U/S equipment and sonographer experience, the results can vary in sensitivity, but with a trained tech and a modern U/S, it's quite good at finding lesions 1cm and above.

It's not as sensitive as a CT, but that doesn't mean the U/s is a BAD imaging technique for the liver.
