Hi all,

My GP referred me for a colonoscopy due to my concerns about my symptoms, It was online booking (im in the UK) which I've booked for 8th January. Ive now received my confirmation letter but no information about the prep? Will I get this at a later date or do you think i've got a consultation first?

the added complication is that i'm pregnant so i wouldn't be surprised if it is a consultation first as ill be 37 weeks by then!

thanks

My OH had prep details sent at a later date. Plus sachets of stuff he had to drink. Laxatives I think they were. 37 weeks is a bit near to 'lift off'. Maybe they will defer until after the birth.

Yes i thought so too, but i did wonder if it was just a consultation.

I'll may see if i can rearrange until after the baby

I’ve had a colonoscopy and I think it rather unlikely they will want to perform one while you are pregnant (congratulations by the way!!). Also - and I could be wrong - I think GP’s refer to consultants, who then order the colonoscopy. With my colonoscopy and gastroscopy I “met” the consultant first both times. So I’m 90% certain Jan 8 will just be consultant appointment

Yes which actually should work out fine then! as can book in for end of feb/march once i will be over the birth! lol

thank you

well I have my appointment on 6th March, I pushed it back because I was pregnant and wasn't sure what they could have done (and i was scared). I'm still assuming this will just be a discussion as I've had no information about prep ect.

You should call and ask

The prep stuff was sent out to my OH, he didn't collect it. More than likely this will just be discussion

If the prep stuff arrives before 6th, maybe that will be the day it's done. If you are getting worried, just ring them so you know exactly where you are.

well, it was a consultation. The dr took note of all my symptoms, felt my tummy and did an examination of my bottom. He said that was all normal and that my symptoms sound innocent but will do a colonoscopy. Just now have to wait for an appointment in the post.

Well its great to hear that he doesn't seem concerned. Do keep us updated on your colonoscopy though :) I am sure everything will be clear.

Would you believe i am still waiting. Ive phoned twice and the last time they said they had two of the washers for the machines had broke so they had a backed up waiting list. They think ill get an appointment for sometime in june. (Baring in mind my consultantation was 6th march)
