A few weeks back I flossed my teeth in the car with a flossing stick. About 30 min later I got horriable sore pains around some of my teeth. It went away pretty soon after but came back a few times especially after eating citrus . Went to dentist she said nothing wrong with any of my teeth , gave me cray and tooth nerve test. Said to rinse with salt water and give it about 2 weeks. The one section is still very sore and a few other spots. I’m beyond worried that I have permant damage or a auto immune disease cause gum issues. I have very good teeth and have cleanings every 6 months . Guys please tell me this will go away I’m so scared

Disease from flossing too much?

You irritated your gums. It happens. Follow the dentist's advice. You're fine :winks:

Not a disease from flossing , I’m more worried a disease is cause the swelling and pain and not the flossing because it’s really taking so long. It’s been 3 weeks !!!

C'mon Jessie. Mouth stuff takes a while to heal. I get that your dragon is messing with you but this started after you flossed too hard. You irritated your gums. Use the salt water, cut back the flossing so it can heal.

You can cut your gums if you over floss. Like Fishmanpa said just leave flossing for a while and brush your teeth carefully and rinse with salt water and you will be ok. The mouth needs time to heal. Also the mouth is a good healer.

I’m just worried it’s been to long and it won’t get better . It’s very stingy . And it’s in more then one spot .

Yes it could. You've already seen improvements so it's just getting better slowly.

That’s the hard part , I didn’t believe I’m improving at all. I actually went back today because I’m so worried this isn’t gonna her resolved. She really had no answers for me. Said time needed for healing. But I’m stressing what if I did t over floss my teeth and this is just some weird thing that’s gonna happen to me forever . I literally never ever had a problem like this before the dental floss stick episode . She even mentioned I may wanna follow up on some blood work Incase their is something underlying that won’t let it heal !!! What if she’s right ????

I have very healthy teeth and regular check ups. But lately my teeth have been feeling sensitive during my anxiety. I don’t grind them so I no it’s not that.and I can’t help but notice every sensation I get inside my teeth. I’m worried I have some sort of nerve disease.

Try sensitive tooth paste for a while.

You may not be grinding, but you could be 'clenching' tightly, without even noticing you are doing it. I do this, a lot, and its only a few hours later when my teeth are sensitive, aching and jittery, that I realise I must have done it. I too have very good oral hygiene and know theres nothing wrong with my teeth....but when you are anxious you can hold your jaw tightly and press the teeth consistently together. Is it possible you are doing this ?

Thank u for the advice !!! This started a few weeks back when I think I hurt my gum flossing , after I flossed I felt a sharp pain go up my gum. It lasted a few seconds but the area stayed sensitive . Didn’t really bother me next few days I went on to eat popcorn eat apples and pop open sunflower seeds with my front teeth. I also had some impression done on my teeth ( for a retainer ) and then that’s when this all started. The one area feels super sensitive like I have a brusw in my front tooth to the side. Even talking and putting pressure with my tongue makes it feel sore. I did go to the dentist . She X rayed said NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH FHW NEEVES AND GAVE THE SORE TOOTH A nerve test. Did fine with it. I looked up bruised tooth which can be a thing. It’s jusy been a few weeks and one days feels better then next day I feel like they are sore again

Sorry to hear that you are still not feeling great :hugs:

I am sure if there was something serious there then it would have been picked up.

Ok I know I’ve posting very frequent about this annoying on going mouth issue. But after ruling some things up and following up with a specialist I may have a mild case of gingivitis. So my question is has anyone ever had this and what were you symptoms. And thank you for all the support !

Nope but I go to the dentist for checkups regularly.

Have you been going ? Did your dentist miss it? (Hard to believe.)

Why did you need a specialist?

Some receding gums, as well as bleeding, mostly. I had neglected regular dentist visits for a couple of years, due in part to not having insurance or steady employment. Mine isn't severe, but enough that it was noticeable, and I can at least prevent it from getting worse. Now I go to the dentist every 6mos or so for cleanings and anything else that may need to be done.

The bleeding I had was pretty awful at first. I would wake up with a modest blood spot on my pillow and/or dried blood near my mouth. Brushing caused quite a bit of bleeding, as did other seemingly harmless things.

Ask your dentist about how to treat it. They can perform a deep cleaning if needed. And of course they'll recommend proper care at home.

Gingivitis is extremely common.

I've had it many times.

Oral abx can be prescribed like metronidazole or doxycycline.

However before that, they'll try you on chlorhexidine mouthwash.

You must also floss twice daily and go for regular cleanings at your dentist.

Don't let your gingivitis cause health anxiety. It's not deserving of it!

Well I guess I can try and except gingivitis as a cause and not something worse or incurable. I think it’s hard for me to believe this is irritants gums from gingivitis. I always assumed I had health teeth and go for my usual cleanings . Has anyone every had this and would u mind sharing your symptoms? Thanks everyone!!!

I’m going through a VERY similar thing at the moment.

I had two fillings in the space of a couple of months, and the second one brought about a huge amount of panic in the dentist chair. I got through it, and got home, and began checking my mouth, teeth and gums, and caused my jaw to hurt. Ever since, although I have calmed the checking a lot, pretty much all my teeth are hurting, especially one that already had a big filling in and my gums up by my back top molars are hurting. I’ve lost over a stone and a half in weight from not eating properly. I went to the dentist on Monday to try and reassure myself and she had the briefest of looks and said my teeth look fine, and not to worry, and I made an appointment for a proper check up next month.

Still the pain persists however, and I can’t seem to stop worrying about them. It’s really unpleasant and has made my anxiety (which was improving greatly) slide back to a bad level. All before Christmas too which doesn’t help!

Good luck with yours! Phil.
