I’ve been getting these shooting pains on the side of my left forehead. They are very brief only last a few seconds. Could this be an aneurysm or something? Anyone had anything like this??

I've had this on and off for the past three months. For a while it was happening every day and I was really stressing about it. My doctor said it sounded muscular and was probably referred pain from my neck. It has eased off a lot now and I'm only getting the pain ocassinally.

I have been having a lot of neck and back pain so maybe it is muscular?

I've been having worsening headaches the past 3 weeks. Starting this past Wednesday during sex right before orgasm i get severe headaches and they last for hours. Now i can't even attempt sex because it brings on the headache quickly. What worries me is how this came on so suddenly you know? I went to the er last night and they did a ct scan which was normal. What worries me is that I read you have to have the ct scan with contrast to see arteries and veins. Anyone have any advice?

---------- Post added at 19:07 ---------- Previous post was at 19:05 ----------

They headaches are just at the back of my head more so on the right which makes it more worrisome and the fact that the headache is always there just worse after sex...

---------- Post added at 19:11 ---------- Previous post was at 19:07 ----------

I also just took 800 mg of ibuprofen which barely even does anything...

---------- Post added at 19:41 ---------- Previous post was at 19:11 ----------

Please anyone I don't know what to do.. Should I go back to the hospital?

They did the ct scan without contrast because they were looking for a bleed. A bleed would light up on a ct scan, contrast lights up the the images, so you can see why they cant use contrast if they are looking for a bleed...

I would not worry about an anyrsum. They often do not have symptoms until they rupture and if they are big enough to be of a concern there would be evidence of that in the scan.

There are tons of reasons for headaches, most of which are benign. If you get these headaches often enough perhaps see a nuerologist so they can figure out what type of headaches your having and what the best treatment course would be.

If you get a sudden headache that is like the worst headache of your life or your having other symptoms with your headache like numbness, blurred vision, confusion etc then you go back to the hospital.. At this time they have already ruled out something immediately life threatning and so there is no reason to return unless something has changed or the situation has become much worse. Call your dr on Monday for a follow up and perhaps discuss a referral for nuerologist..

I hope you get to feeling better soon

Hi

This is just a courtesy reply to let you know that your thread was merged with another of your threads.

Please when posting on similar topics add it onto your previous post rather than starting a new one.

It is nothing personal it is just to make it easier for people to follow your story and to give you advice as a whole.

Thank you for the lengthy reply. What about malformations in the arteries or artery tears I read those will only show on contrast enhanced scans.

This is one of the health worries that I get myself worked up about. And I suffer from ice pick headaches and I used to get one during sex too but after a good few years I realised they were caused by my anxiety. Now don’t get me wrong I’m still scared of certain problems but the less I react with fear to the headaches the less I get them.

One thing I did to help reduce my fear was to recognise the thoughts I had and then see that if was mostly after worrying I had a symptom even if was just a fleeting thought. Keeping a diary really helps with that.

Big hugs I really hope you feel better

What would be the point of going back to the ER? You said you have been having these headaches for some time now and you have been to the ER recently where a CT scan was performed and nothing of concern was found. They are not going to do anything different then what they did the last time.. Maybe perform another CT scan that is not medically necessary, just to cover their butts?? Nearly all the CT scans performed in the ER of the head for headaches are done without contrast for the reason I mentioned in my previous reply. They saw no reason to do one with and without contrast and seeing how they are the professionals they would know better then you or I.
The ER is for emergencies and while I know headaches can be painful and at times scary because of the way the can persist, your situation has already been evaluated and so there is no reason to return to the ER, it will be a waste of their time and yours.... Unless, something has changed, like any of the things I mentioned earlier or you truly feel that you have a life threatening emergency and not just anxiety over your headache.

There really is no point in asking people here what they think could be going on because it would be impossible for anyone here to know. All we can do is share similar experience and try to help you navigate through the anxiety while you wait to be seen by your doctor.

Your best bet is to try and get in with the neurologist. You mention you already have an appointment coming up. Perhaps tomorrow give the office a call. Explain your situation and the fact you went to the ER. Perhaps they can move your appointment up if they have an opening and if they dont you can ask them if they have a cancel list. If they do, you can ask to be placed on it so that in the event someone cancels their appointment, they can move you into that spot.

I know the frustration of waiting to get in with a specialist especially when you are not feeling well or have something going on. I waited 18 months to see a genetic doctor. It stinks but its the way it is unfortunately.

What worries me is a aneurysmal-subarachnoid-hemorrhage is missed on ct scan 50 percent of the time then they do a spinal tap to see if theirs blood which they didn't do! Could that of been missed? This pain in the back of mu head is so weird its like a burning pain then followed by throbbing if i exert myself....

---------- Post added at 01:57 ---------- Previous post was at 01:55 ----------

Also i believe malformations of the arteries won't show on standard ct.

There’s times here where a thread runs it’s course....when it becomes clear that no matter how much reassurance an OP is given, regardless of how much advice they’re provided, it’s clear that nothing will help.
At some point you have to stand on your own...YOU do something about your fears, nobody else can do it for you. Have you ever been to therapy? What techniques have you learned? Have you discussed medication with your doctor?

You got all that information from Googling, which you really should try not to do for this very reason ^^^^^^... Had the medical staff in the ER felt you could possibly have any of that, they would have done the appropriate testing. They know what they are doing...

At this point it seems like no matter what anyone here says, no matter what the medical professionals say, no matter how much reassurance you get, you will continue to think you have an anyrsum. See, how health anxiety works is... You have convinced yourself you have an anyrsum, nothing will satisfy you or move you away from this belief. You will not be convinced until you have had every test there is. Once its proven to your satisfaction that you dont have an anyrsum, your headache will disappear and a short time later you will convince yourself that you have some other life threatening condition... and this will go and on and on and on and on until you get help.

Yeah you are probably right. Now I'm very concerned I just started breaking out in a sweat all over for no reason? I've never had that happen before could that indicate something really serious?

My mother in law collapsed in our kitchen 2 weeks ago due to a SAH. Believe me, the sentinel headaches are unmistakable. She would be sitting in a chair and have this incapacitating neck pain. It was so bad that she couldn't move and screamed for help. This was 2 weeks before the rupture. When it ruptured, she suddenly tripped over her own foot thinking she lost her footing, then she passed out and vomited. The CT scan immediately spotted the aneurysm and now she is on the mend. I remember asking her a few weeks ago how the headaches felt and she said it was like fire, like someone took a vat of hot lava and poured it into her spine.

When I talked to the doctor they said there are a very specific set of symptoms that occur when an aneurysm has ruptured, one or those being profuse vomiting ...not from the pain, but it is your brains automatic response to the irritation of blood. We stated that she had not vomited during the episode and the doctors seemed perplexed...but then we came home and noticed an empty sugar canister on the floor.. full of vomit.

Did they do a FULL CT scan of the head? If so, then you are likely fine and are probably having tension related headaches. The synptoms you describe are extremely common...especially if you are tense and tend to look down at a keyboard or phone a lot. My mother in law had a CT scan after the neck pains....HOWEVER...they only did a scan of the back of her head (I honestly don't know how that is possible but this is what I wsas told) and the aneurysm was behind her forehead.

If it makes you nervous, get a spinal tap. It hurts like hell, but only takes around 5 minutes...tops. If the spinal fluid is clear, then it is unlikely you have a bleeding aneurysm. The only way an aneurysm can cause pain is if it is bleeding in some way ..otherwise they are silent. The blood drains down your spine and collects...so of it ain't there, it never was.

I really don't think you have an aneurysm..

So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law I hope she is recovering well. Yes the ct scan was of my entire brain I'm pretty sure. When you mentioned the lava down the spine thats how this feels when its bad. The back of my head and neck feels like it's burning.. I'm also pretty concerned aboutthis sweating all over for no reason and random hot and cold sensations.

Meriland30
14-01-19, 04:29
The sweating is atypical for an aneurysm...more likely a sympathetic nervous system response (fight or flight mode). This wasn't just a burning pain....she could not move her head, like she was temporarily paralyzed. 11 out of 10 scale.
