went to my audiologist appointment today to check out my dizzy spells that have been for 5 years. The specialist was Mr peter west at Q . A hospital in
portsmouth.

I failed my test and the specialist confirmed I do have a inner ear disorder with loss of balance  , YES YES YES , i ALWAYS KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING NOT RIGHT .
he gave me a hyperventilation test first and I had no hyperventilation what so ever  , he said I have anxiety cos of my ears not the other way round.

He confirmed this problem happens mainly in SHOPS crowds and AND DRIVING , i JUST CANT BELIEVE IT .

FOR ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WITH THE DIZZY PROBLEM , GET YOUR GP TO REFER YOU TO AUDIOLOGY :yesyes:

Im so happy today , but now he needs to sort out meds for me and I got some excersizes to do.

Oh Mirry
I am so pleased for you, not coz you have sopmething wrong you poor thing but because it's been recognised and you know what it is.

Theres nothing worse than knowing there something wrong and no one believing you or bothering to find out.

Now you will get the treatment you need and hopefully start to feel heaps better

all the best:yesyes: :flowers: :hugs:

Wow what a relief for you. It just shows docs don't know everything, we are the only ones who really know our bodies and shouldnt be fobbed off by GP's who have only got time to write a prescription.

Hopefully now you should be able to begin to feel better 'mentally'!

Thank you for sharing my happiness, I dont know what the furture brings with this but at least I know whats wrong.
I could of kissed him , I loved the way he explained it all, how we loose confidence in our abilities, and end up avoiding situations.

Apparently in Australia there is research into inner ear problems and panic disorder, makes you think doesnt it ?

He asked me so many questions , all about triggers ect.
And then he had goggles on me and it was pitch black ! I had to let him shake my head side to side then the goggles have a camera inside them that records my eye movements, apparently my eyes darted back and forth, which suggests inner ear disorder. Then I failed the walking with eyes closed test (one foot in front of another) which was embarrasing , I just couldnt do it. All my symptoms are typical and my night time buzzing of the ear when my husband talks is also typical.
He said hes writing to my gp to tell them I dont have hyperventalation disorder but have inner ear disorder.

thanks for your support , I keep sounding like that comedy actor Victor Meldew,

I dont belive it !!!

Dark Angel, its like my brain doesnt know it yet ,lol.

Today I was walking down the street and I felt myself stagger and then my heart rate went up , so I had to tell myself this is because of my inner ear....
and I keep thinking what if hes got it wrong ?

After so many doctors telling me it anxiety, its hard to change.

That is wonderful news, i am so pleased for you. I have been convinced for years that i have an ear/balance problem and saw an ENT specialist who didn't really want to see me and said that i was fine and had nothing wrong just by doing a hearing test and shoving his light in my ears!! Had two MRI's which were both clear, but even the neurosurgeon says there is something wrong but they just don't know what, perhaps menieres disease. He said that i should be referred to a neurologist for further investigations and to a physio for my neck. Everywhere i go i am fobbed off so i can truly understand how wonderful you must feel by getting your diagnoses. It makes one hell of a difference to be able to put a name to what is happening to you, and it is a relief too. I hope i will be referred soon and i have some luck too. I am very pleased for you and hope you are feeling a bit better about things now.xx

I hope you get some answers , its just horrible not knowing.

This afternoon Ive been down in myself ,after such a High,
its because I was out and walked towards lots of kids coming out of school and I felt so off balance then felt anxious. Its like even tho I know whats wrong with me its not helping , I still feel terrible.

Maybe following the vestibular excersizes will get me some relief ?
thats enough of me moaning ,lol.
take care xxx

Hey Mirry.

Wow - this is really interesting and I am so pleased for you that you have persevered and got this sorted. At least now you can work on getting the real problem dealt with.

I would be fascinated to know about the research in Australia that you mentioned. I will keep a lookout for it.

I have to laugh to myself when you mention the balance tests - I went through the mill with them and isn't it embarrassing?! I did the Vestibular Rehabilitation too and it did help.

Good luck with it xxxx

Im so pleased the vestibular exercises helped you Dying swan, how long did it take , do you remember ?
I have to do 10 mins, 3 times a day and am finding it difficult but will keep doing them . Did you get any meds to take as well ?

Hey Mirry.

I can't remember exactly how long but I have a feeling it was 4-6 weeks. I know it was 3 times a day and used to take me 5-10 minutes. Every couple of weeks I had to ring the Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapist (!) and give an update.

I know it is hard to keep doing them and seems pointless at times, but I'd really recommend you keep up with it for a while and you should notice after a time that the exercises get easier and you get less wobbly.

I think I had Stugeron, which is marketed as a Travel Sickness pill. I didn't find it helpful. I also had Stemetil which didn't help either, although many people do find these very useful.

Feel better soon :yesyes: xx

Thanks for your help , I will let you know how I get on.

oh Ive just found out the test they are going to give me is looking for a tumour in my inner ear on the nerve.

I have some of the symptoms of it and I remeber the specialist saying I dont think its anything serious ? Im getting myself at it now , " sigh "
