Hello,

I accidentally picked of a new mole with my fingernail while I was scratching area around it because it was itchy (I have seborrheic dermatitis). I made a small cut through it and it bled for 2-3 minutes. The day later the whole pigmented part vanished, there's maybe only little pigment now around the wound if any. The mole was only 3 mm in diameter. My question is: Can it still be checked for melanoma through a biopsy of the area where the mole was and surrounding skin? Will it be effective in detecting cancer cells?

Thank you

These are questions you need to ask your doctor really.

Moles generally cannot be picked off, but there is another type of skin lesion called a seborrheic keratoses (which is age related) that can be removed.

These are benign lesions and can start to appear in your early 40's and can be easily picked off but generally don't bleed.
