I have been on citalopram for about 7 months now 20mg and although it has helped with the anxiety the side effects eg constipation which caused very painful piles and the complete loss of sex drive and fasilure to orgasm is becoming a problem so I was thinking of asking my Dr about coming off it and perhaps just taking diazepam as and when I feel the need, any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey there.

I'm not whether the doctor would agree - he might, he might not (or she!).
Some doctors are quite anti-benzodiazepines (e.g. Diazepam) because they are so addictive.

They may decide simply to swap you to a different Anti-Depressant. Citalopram is widely used for anxiety, but there are many others which may work better for you.

I'd personally be quite careful with Diazepam. They can be fantastic in helping people cope with very stressful events, but generally speaking they shouldn't really be used as a long term thing. I believe it is also difficult to get them on repeat prescription, although others may know more about that.

Good luck with what you decide xx
