Hi all,

Slightly freaking out about seeing blood in my poo just now.

I've had blood on tissue before but knew it was just bleeding from fissures - it hurt!

But now I have blood in my stool. In the 'cracks' of the formed poo was dark red and the faeces gave off a stream of red & brown separate to the toilet water.

I'm freaking out about cancer!

Have you been eating any thing with red colouring in the past couple of days? - I’ve freaked myself out with that one before.

Also have you be straining to go? Red blood is most likely to be roids or a fissure.

Positive vibes,

I had beetroot two days ago! My wife has recently introduced me to it so this is all new to me.

Could that be the cause? What should I continue to look out for?

Sounds like the likely culprit.

What should I keep an eye out for? The cancer worry still is in the back of my mind

It'll be beetroot.

I have 3 small hemorrhoids, and when irritated they cause poo spotting on paper and on more than one occasion blood on the poo itself and in the water. I was a bit worried too although I was pretty sure it was the hemorrhoids. I got a scope up the bum, and of course they found nothing (other than the hermorrhoids of course).

So bottom line is that the GP (in fact two) seemed supremely unbothered when I showed them a horrible picture of my bloody poo! I suspect if it’s not beetroot it’s just something like this. Mine cleared up after a week with anusol and more fibre in my diet!

How old are you?

It can be from beetroot. Recently I had a charcoal drink and it turned mine black for 2 days.

I’ve just revisited the bathroom and had severe diarrhoea which hasn’t exactly helped my situation but could be coincidence

If you are really too worried then you can go visit your GP and get some tests done for your reassurance. I dont think it is anything sinister tho given your age.
