Pain when prodding? Leave it alone or docs

Hi,
I was leaning against a bench yesterday and noticed some pain just to the right of my belly button, mainly on the right side but a bit on the left too. Obviously I started prodding the area immediately to see if it hurts when it's pushed on and it does. Is this just one of those 'don't poke it then' situations or is it cause for alarm? Trying not to Google so wanted to ask you guys!
