Last week I had a full blood count along with coeliac screening. I had the blood test while I had the flu or some sort of infection.

Received a letter in the post today from my GP saying they had tried numerous times to contact me (they didn’t) and that I should book an appointment at my earliest convenience. I’m already in a phase of high anxiety due to my stomach (see my recent posts) so this sent me into overdrive.

Phoned up the surgery and they said my GP would call me back, which he did almost an hour later.

He explained that it’s ‘nothing dangerous and nothing to worry about’ but he wants me in for repeat blood test. Apparently, my red blood and white blood count is higher than usual, some inflammatory markers are present and liver markers are also a bit high.

I don’t know what to make of this. I told him I get worried easily but he replied saying I should relax and enjoy my weekend and come see him on Monday.

Thanks both ^

I do feel somewhat better, I appreciate your words as always.

I’m in a bad phase of HA. Started off with stomach worries which prompted me to go to my doctor and ask for a coeliac blood test.

I then went back to my GP for insomnia only to learn the blood test was invalid due to a names mix up and he booked me in again and added a full blood panel to the list.

Fast forward a week and I was back at my GP due to an upper respiratory infection for which I was given antibiotics. I eventually did do the blood test a week after the infection started. Feeling much better with regards to the infection but not 100% yet I still think it may be lingering slightly.

I’ve had a fair few blood panels in the past and they’ve always come back as normal. In fact, my last full blood check was done in March/April 2018 and was totally fine. This is the first time somethings been flagged up and I’ve been contacted by my doctor. I’m just hoping it is nothing serious.

Hardly slept. The fear of leukaemia was playing over and over in my mind.

The blood results, the fact that my throat is still a little sore, been sweating at night.

Shouldn’t have Googled...

Agreed. Googling is absolutely always a bad idea.

Absolutely ^

All i Googled though, was high WBC count. Next thing you know, Leukaemia pops up.

Maybe I shouldn’t have even asked for a blood test in the first place..

Firstly, apologies for the recent increase in topics. My HA is high at the moment but I have made an appointment for CBT next month.

I had a blood test recently (while I was ill with what seemed to be a sinus infection) and ran through the results with my GP today.

The abnormal results are as follows:
Serum ALT : 98 (0-55)
Serum ALP alkaline phosphate: 212 (30-130)

Google search comes up with all sorts including cancer, bone issues etc.

GP told me not to worry too much and come in for a repeat test in two weeks’ time.

But I keep thinking how the results are almost twice the upper limit and something definitely is wrong. I’m 25 and never smoked or drunk alcohol so it is worrying me a lot.

June 18th 12pm, telephone consultation to begin with.

I’m so worried, how can my liver tests be that abnormal?

Good going! That's a step in the right direction :yesyes:

Your doctor said not to be concerned and they'll retest and besides, the question is for a medical professional, not an anxiety board. Besides, you has some kind of infection when you had your blood work (https://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?230062-Blood-test-results) done so.....I had blood test readings that were off (high) and when retested, they had come down. It happens. Of course, you Googled and got yourself in a tizzy so what can be said?

Nicola, apologies, I will keep that in mind next time! ^

Fishmanpa, I wish I had a mindset like yours. My mind has been beset with worry for the best part of a month now. Various things, you’ve seen my posts lol.

I wish I could have every test under the sun and hopefully be given the all clear but then again, waiting for results is scary enough.

So, what started off as a coeliac disease worry, morphed into bowel cancer, leukaemia and now... pancreatic cancer.

I seem to tick all the boxes:
- IBS like symptoms, gas and softish stools after eating spicy food, light brown floating stools after very fatty meals
- Loss of appetite although I am still eating as normal but I don’t feel hungry as much
- Lost around ~1.25kg since March
- Abnormal liver function on blood test
- Poor sleep

Sounds absolutely ridiculous I know but I just seem to have all the symptoms.

How are you doing now?
My blood test are fine but i have a bruise on my leg and i feel so weak but i dont remember if i felt weak before i spotted the bruise or after.
I completely undserstand how you're feeling. healthy anxiety is awful, i cant go into the doctors office without going red and then they check my bp and say oh its quite high. EVERY SINGLE TIME. i need to tell them oh i have anxiety. i wish i just had one doctor who knows my situation but they're always new.
Any how i am going back tomorrow about this bruise. Hopefully i have a break from more symptoms as i cant take any more.

Hi, I wouldn’t worry if the blood test was fine. You should definitely tell them that you are anxious regarding your health. They should refer you for some therapy.

I’m still waiting for my second blood test. It is scheduled for later this week but I may delay it until next week. I still feel as if my body isn’t completely over this nagging virus I have.

Had my repeat test last week (also checked for HIV and Hepatitis).

Popped into my surgery as I was local to ask about the results. Receptionist told me to make a routine appointment to discuss them with my GP. He did say they hadn’t been trying to call me and it wasn’t urgent.

Now I’m panicking again. The saga continues..

Elevated liver enzymes can be caused by medication or something like a fatty liver. Mine go up and down often depending on what I eat and how much fat I store in my belly. I got an ultrasound and everything looked fine outside of mild fatty liver. Doctor just told me to eat better and exercise.

Also, if you had the test during the flu then that could definitely be the cause of your elevated inflammation markers. Was it your C-reactive protein that was elevated?

I understand your concern but the time to freak out has not come yet. I’ve been there, I’ve done that and I didn’t have anything serious.

My ESR and white blood count was slightly elevated on the first test. Vitamin D was low. Liver enzymes ALT and ALP were almost twice the upper limit.

Re-test was last week along with HIV and Hepatitis check.

Something has obviously been flagged up again hence being told to book an appointment with my GP.

Update;

Relieved to find out my ALT and ALP had dropped back into range. However another enzyme GGT came back as slightly elevated. So going to have another repeat test in a few weeks time.

Don’t know what to make of that to be honest.

I completely forgot to ask my doctor about them. In fact, he didn’t even mention it. I also don’t think he tested for inflammation again.

Just dropping by to say that I had my third test (for elevated GGT) and it is now back in range.

So if anyone starts going crazy (like I did) about abnormal liver function tests, it can be caused by infections or for no reason at all.
