I switched over to Effexor from Lexapro about 3 weeks ago. I just started having a few brain zaps daily . ( i think that’s what they are, a brief jolt feeling in my left temple). Could this be from the switchover ? They’re not too bothersome but of course i am worried because i have health anxiety. Anyone with a similar issue?

Yes they are to do with changes in meds. I also have bad HA and when I came off Citalopram many years ago I was getting brain zaps all the time and although its an odd feeling its harmless. As your starting new meds they will go fairly quick but if your coming off meds they will last longer, I had them for a couple of months after coming off meds.

Don't worry its normal.

Yes, common with both anxiety and venlafaxine. Ven has a short half life, so make sure you take it at the prescribed times.

Thank you both for your replies. It’s reassuring.

I've had this when coming off citalopram and sertraline. Also had it when I've missed a dose of ven. I describe it as a guitar string pulled tight in my brain and the zap feels like it's being plucked. It's a very strange experinece. When I came off citalopram I had them all day for a good week.
