Don’t know if this will help some people or not but I feel it does show how catastrophic our thoughts are;

Symptom - catastrophic thought - real reason

Lumps on throat - throat cancer - stress and bad diet

Constantly peeing and dry mouth - diabetes - UTI infection

Tingling in hands and feet - MS - hyperventilating

Eye floaters - retinal detachment - normal for people

Back pain - AS - mechanical and postural pain

Diarrhea and stomach pain - Crohn’s disease - ibs and anxiety

These are my main worries the bottom one I still am worried it’s crohns a bit but I’ve had enough tests and reassurance to tell me it’s not but this goes to show how much we can worry about something which isn’t factual

I really like this post a lot. I, too, find it very comforting to list the realities of my anxieties.
Here is my list:
Melanoma....itchy back, freckle
Heart attack.....chest pains from anxiety, pins and needles in hand
Stroke....no symptoms, just didn’t take blood pressure meds
Blood clot in leg....no symptoms, just anxiety
Bone cancer....bumped elbow
Stomach cancer....gas
Diabetes....dehydration, not drinking enough

It all sounds so ridiculous when written like that, except that this list represents months and years of sleepless nights and gut wrenching anxiety for me. It’s amazing how your mind works. I’ve never once had what I was worried about, yet still play doctor on myself 🤷*♀️

There have been dozens of threads like this and the lists are similar. While they do highlight the absurdity of the thought process, they don't change anything. The patterns and threads persist.
