View Full Version : Past guilt -ocd?

I have an overwhelming urge today to message my son to apologise for something from years ago. I keep telling myself it's an ocd thought, as my husband says it's not something I should even feel guilty about.
If I message him and apologise I guess I will be feeding my ocd. Is it better to dismiss the thought as ocd as I cannot change what has happened in the past?
The urge to apologise is just so strong!!!

Oh, I get stuck on this sort of thing all the time!

If you apologise, it'll feed your OCD but there's also a very real chance that it'll weird your son out a bit and make things awkward, at least in the short term. If you can manage it (and I know it's hard), try to use your normal coping strategies and wait for the urge to go away.

Thanks. I've been trying all day. The urge is so strong but if I just messaged him out of the blue and apologised he would be weirded out. H e knows all about my ocd but I don't think fully understands it and why some things freak me out so much when they wouldn't bother someone else.
I'm doing my best to sit on this one and not 'confess'. 😕

Believe me, this one comes from frequent and incredibly embarrassing experience ;)
