I hope someone can help the health anxiety is really bad. I have been under excessive strain recently following the death of my husband and other issues.
I have ibs, gerd, reflux, gastritis - sometimes severe, motility issues as the food passes down the oesophagus slowly etc. From time to time I get the lump feeling in my throat. I am on Omeprazole on varying doses depending on symptoms at the moment I’m on 40 mgs twice daily, drugs for high blood pressure. I’m supposed to take Gaviscon advanced for the reflux but only take it now and then. I have been trying to reduce the Omeprazole and not leaving enough time after taking it before eating.

Two weeks ago the feeling of constriction in my throat got really bad and I panicked about it, then I felt food was sticking a bit. The food goes down slowly and I am burping a lot. It is eased a bit by Gaviscon. I am worried about eating now. I mentioned it to the GP who says it’s anxiety and stress but will send me for a scope, if it doesn’t go. She says she isn’t worried about it and reassured that I don’t have anything to be concerned about.

Can anyone offer reassurance? I am so worried.

Are you sure it isn't Globus?

That’s what the doctor thinks it’s that and anxiety. She is usually right. I go to her with a lot of issues and this is just one of them, the most recent. I feel hopeless.x

I have had it and it took a long time to go but heat around the neck helped somewhat.

Did you feel that food was kind of sticking too?

it’s what I’m most worried about.

My biggest worry was that I couldn't swallow and I would choke

I can see what you mean. I suppose the feeling in the throat could be misconstrued as food because after eating, in my case the feeling comes back.

Hi Nicola, I have now read the second post and it reads just like my symptoms. Thank you so much.xx

If the gaviscon helps then maybe take it straight after eating? I found gaviscon helped me more than omeprazole. It definitely sounds like globus.

Thank you will definitely try the Gaviscon immediately after eating. I have a funny taste in my mouth at times a bit like blood or metallic. I have a problematic tooth so it might be coming from that. I think it’s globus really but your mind says otherwise - anxiety is an awful thing.x
