Hi

A few months ago I got in a really bad panic over diabetes, and ended up buying a glucose monitor to check myself. It was all fine at the time, but now it seems a bit all over the place. I started taking a multivitamin in the morning a couple of months ago and have recently started time restricted eating (fasting) to try and lose some weight. Except, I checked my BG the other day after not bothering for a while and it was 6.2 :weep: This was about 11am after not eating since the night before. A few hours later I checked again after not eating and and it was down to 5.0

Today, I hadn't eaten since last night and went a gym class this morning, checked it when I came back and it was 6.4 :scared15:

I'm really freaked out! It just seems strange since two weeks ago I checked it at 8:30am before breakfast and it was 4.8

I don't feel ill or like I'm going diabetic, but I'm worried the fasting and multivitamins might be affecting this?

The highest it had ever got before this week was 5.5 and that was only once. Please help!

Just checked it again (still not eaten) two hours after getting 6.4 and it's 4.8 now?

You can't test for diabetes like this alone. You need to have your HbA1c levels tested as well.

Were you advised to check like this or did you just decide to do it?

Thanks for the replies!

No-one advised me to, I just decided to get one last time I panicked over diabetes, thinking it would confirm or deny my fears. At first it helped because it showed low levels and after checking it every now and then I stopped for a while. I checked again a couple of weeks ago and it was fine, then this week it's gone up the wall. Part of me wants to just bin it, but I'm worried now if I do I won't know if I'm going diabetic.

I know it seems really over the top, but I even have a chart to monitor it.

Many peoples results are at the top end of normal and always stay that way with no conversion to pre-diabetes. Just keep exercising and cut out all sugar and alcohol.

Yeah, I'm trying to not focus on it. I am overweight and eat a bit of rubbish, but I exercise a lot and I'm only 25. I don't want to be panicking over it constantly. It's just hard not to, particularly after seeing the numbers jump 😭

BIN THE METER! There's no reason for you to be self-testing since you're not diabetic!

I have type two diabetes. Trust me when I say that you’re probably fine. I know it seems high that it was 6.4 after not eating but you exercised and that can have an impact on your blood sugar, especially after not eating. And also trust me when I say that as someone who suffers from HA, my diabetes is 10000% the last fear in my mind. It’s truly nothing to manage when you do it right and a few simple life changes can make all the difference.

I’m also type 2. The reason your numbers went up after exercise is because your liver dumped sugar into your body to fuel your muscles while you were exercising. If your really worried go to the drs and get your HbA1c checked. If it comes back as pre diabetic or diabetic there is so much you can do. Through losing weight, cutting down on carbs and exercise I managed to reverse my diagnosis and I’m back into normal levels. Good luck

Now, THIS is something you should be focusing on.

Oh wow. Do you mind me asking how long did it take from diagnosis to you reversing it? Did you go on a calorie controlled diet or anything? I'm currently T2.

Hi, it took me 3 months. My HbA1c went from 56 to 38. I just went low carb and exercised every day for 10-20 mins and walked between 10-20,000 steps. I did cut 99% of rubbish out of my diet I eat a lot of omelettes, salads, meat and veg. The only bread I eat is livlife because it’s low carb this has helped me lose 3 stone

Bakedbeansrule is correct. I also reversed mine in 3 months. Low carb is the key.
