Hi. As I am new to all of this could anyone advise me as to whether the NHS or even your local council run therapy groups for this sort of condition? I would be interested in attending and sharing my thoughts and experiences with other people that suffer as I feel it would help to talk within a group.

Ideally I would like CBT but my GP has not even discussed this with me, I guess because the NHS waiting list is so long? (can you pay for private sessions?)

Hi Mat,

If you explain your problems to your GP, they will ask if you would like to see a counciller. I can't take any of the medication, well.. there's one I can take apparently but for some reason I was told it's best I try councelling first.

If you GP doesn't ask you this, maybe you could ask them if there's any chance of being referred to a counciller. I was referred a few month ago and it only took a couple of weeks before I got a letter saying I could go, and when I could go.

He has to discuss it with you if you want to try it - wave the NICE guidelines at him. Yes you can pay private but mine were £95 for 50 mins!

Call No Panic (the charity) and ask if they have any local support groups as very few NHS trusts run them due to funding.
