Leukocytes -urine

I’ve had some minor burning down there for over a week, last few days have been peeing more so I ordered some urine dipsticks. Did 2 this morning and they showed leukocytes, no nitrates. Can this still be a UTI?

I’ve been out all day, haven’t drank lots and didn’t want to keep stopping for the loo, came home and did another urine test and it’s all normal. What’s going on?!

I did go docs and he said as a standard they give antibiotics for suspected UTI, he said based on my symptoms it sounds like UTI. He’s given me a 3 day course which I will start tomorrow.

can it be UTI without nitrates? Why was the last dipstick test normal??

Yes it can, bacteria doesn't always change nitrates into nitrites. You probably should go to the doctor and have them do a UA on you, maybe even a urine culture. I don't know I would put all my faith in the store bought strips.
