Good evening everyone,

I am feeling really scared at the moment. Last week I woke up with blurry and vision in my left eye - I couldnt event see the number on my phone clearly . This never happened to me in the past. It lasted for about two hours after waking up. I went to see an specialist at the hospital. He could not find anything wrong with my eyes after all the tests, so he said that the only thing that could explain it is optic nerve inflammation.

Obviously I am now convinced this is due to a brain tumor or MS. I also feel there is a bump on the left side of my skull. Its been there for months ( since I first noticed it).

I am doing some more vision tests tomorrow. But I believe they might send me for a brain scan eventually. I am so scared and this has plunged me in a very bad anxiety phase.

On top of all of this I have felt dizzy on and off for months, and I do feel like my memory is not as good as it once was. Anyone has ever experienced anything similar?

If it were caused by a brain tumour or MS then the symptoms wouldn’t fade after a few hours. Also, I’m surprised an ophthalmologist couldn’t accurately say wether or not optic nerve inflammation was present during an eye examination.

Optic nerve inflammation causes very noticeable signs to appear on the optic disc at the rear of the eye, if swelling were present surely this would have been detected by your ophthalmologist?

Tumours don’t cause bumps in your skull either, the skull is far too rigid for a brain tumour to deform it.

I would be surprised if a brain scan was ordered if no signs or symptoms suggest the problem is in the brain. Try to relax a bit, I’d wager you’ll have a few more tests and be told that your vision is fine and that’s it.

My brother's ex-girlfriend went to the eye doctor with optic nerve inflammation/pain and was immediately sent to the hospital where she was diagnosed with MS. This is to say - when it was caused by MS it was very, very obvious immediately by the eye doctor. There was no question and she was also in an a lot of pain. She had to be put on IV steroids to take down the inflammation. So, like Gary A says, this isn't something that the eye doctor would be unsure of if it was caused by MS.

You probably slept funny on your eye. I'll wake up with blurry eyes every once in a while and it always fades in a few hours.
