Hi everyone,

I've been having shortness of breath recently. It feels as if I can't get a full breath.

My GP has ruled out asthma or anything cardiac-related but suggested that there may be some type of 'silent reflux' causing my symptoms but again, no tests have been done.

Has anyone got any practical tips to help me with this very debilitating symptom?

Thanks to everyone,

SB

All you can do is ignore it. It's incredibly common, one of the most common symptoms that comes along with anxiety.

If it's reflux related, then deal with the reflux by watching what you eat. I use apple cider vinegar to treat reflux (google it) and it deals with it without the need for drugs, in combination with not eating the foods that cause the reflux in the first place.

No tips as I've had days of panic and anxiety over it but I can tell you I've had the same feeling most days for the past several months. Also cleared by doc. I think it's stress related in my case.

Thanks to everyone who replied, I appreciate the time you've taken.

@ankietyjoe Can I ask how the vinegar works as I though acid was detrimental to GERD? Thank you!

That's why I said google it. Reflux is often because your stomach isn't producing enough acid, and consuming apple cider vinegar actually helps your stomach detect acid and closes the valve that usually allows reflux to happen. There's a ton of information about it online, and it fixed mine.

Thank you. I'll check that out. I appreciate you taking the time to reply

I would still suggest focusing on your diet first rather than a fix. Having said that, there's no real downside in using ACV for most people.

I second apple cider vinegar, it’s beneficial for a lot of different things but it has helped me in addition to being mindful of what I eat.

Hi
I've recently been getting this, where I need to make an effort to take a deep breath, if that makes sense?? I also yawn alot! From what I've read this is another wonderful symptom of anxiety. I'm on 50mgs Sertraline at the moment and am struggling with the breathing thing and also my ribs and back just seem to ache. I did see a physio a few years ago, when my anxiety started and she said I was suffering from hyperventilation syndrome.

I describe mine the exact same way as your first couple of sentences. It's been worse the past couple of weeks as I've been getting increased stress over work.
