Persistent Low Grade Tempersture in Child

Hi all,

My daughter (4) has had a persistent low grade temperature for last 6-8weeks. She had a very high temp over xmas which we believe was due to a viral infection (wife and I were also ill). Shes fine in herself but when we take her temperature ire typically in region of 37.3-38.0 when taken with ear thermometer. It only seems to be when shes awake and when we take readings when shes asleep her temp drops to normal levels.

My wife is taking her to the doctors today and we are going to push for an answer and more tests if needed, but wondered if anyone has experienced similar symptoms in their little one?

Those readings are completely normal.

I dont think they are. Anything over 37.5 from an ear thermometer is high.

If you don't think they are, see what the Doctor says. If the Doctor also says it's normal please try and accept it and move on.

If your daughter is acting and playing fine, she's probably fine.

Some people just run a little warm, there’s no reason to take a temperature of someone that feels fine though so often we would never notice.

While I can appreciate your concern. If she’s not showing any other symptoms then it might just be a mistake, or something little. Especially as it’s normal at night.
Hopefully you’ll get an answer today.

The range for fever is different for adults and children. 35.8°C to 38°C measured by the ear is within normal range for children between the ages of 3 and 10 and even if it’s just a hair higher then that it can still be normal as some people just tend to run a little warmer then others.
If your child is acting like their normal self, playing, eating, drinking etc there probably isn’t any cause for concern.

I honestly wouldn’t be overly worried over this.
