My mum has been taken to a and e from her haemorrhaging got worse. I’m here waiting to find out if she is ok which is terrifying me as I have seen her unresponsive twice with this condition before. And we are surrounded by suspected coronavirus patients! I am literally in a horror film and mums scared I’m scared my only hope is that those who are suspected are in face masks. Then they are behind curtains but still the a and e department isn’t big and the air is so stuffy you can taste the muggy air if you know what I mean. We are waiting to get mum on a surgical ward I’m a wreck inside! And once she’s on the ward I can’t see her due to new rules. I’m so scared I don’t want to loose her to her bleeding problem and I don’t want her to get doubly ill with CV!!

Mum is on SAU I am holding out as long as I can now all visitors are banned from the hospital and then I won’t be able to see her for a few days. They have their suspicions the life threatening bleed in her vowel has returned despite removing her sigmoid colon 2 years ago. Got to have tests and find out what the plan is and keep her safe and stable in the mean time

Our thoughts are with you during this awful time and you know we will support you on here when you need it.

Whilst they have banned general visits there may be a different policy for more serious cases so perhaps it will change when they know the full details of your mum's case? (Although I would prefer to hear she is well with nothing serious and you all communicating via phone/message for a bit)

Thanks Terry we are prepared to FaceTime as long as she is well enough yes. It’s all this COVID-19 stopped visitors we are all victim to it from one way or another

Oh goodness what is going on Phoenixess, what haemorrhaging problem does she have - I must have missed seeing something about it earlier ? How terrifying for you on both counts - the fact your Mum is unwell and you are having to enter the realm of the suspected coughing people. Does she have a phone, can you speak with her and messages at least ? What a truly awful situation to be in :(

Edited to add - I've just seen your post further up about bowel bleeding, for some reason one page didn't show when I replied earlier. I'm so sorry.

How is your Mum this morning, Phoenixess?

I hope things have been stabilised and that she is comfortable. Just focus on your mum now-she needs treatment in hospital despite all the cv scary stuff. The doctors and nurses will do all they can to keep her safe.

Phoenixess, that is understandable with what you've just been through and the countries state of panic with Cov19.
Can I just say you have coped extremely well and allow yourself a bit of calm by watching a film or soak in a bath or just lie on your bed for a while listening to affirmations.
Your mum will be proud of you hun, you need to know that.
It's ok to weep from time to time, its a calming emotion, just remember you can always come here if feeling lonely and scared. :hugs: x

Brilliant news!

So how about doing some of that uni work thinking your mum will be on your case in a few days when she's back out? :winks: So many people seem to be clinging to reassurance-seeking threads when the important thing is to keep going with normal routines rather than obsess. It's unhealthy. It's healthy to do things that make you feel better and less attached to the online world.

BlueIris
16-03-20, 16:11
Can confirm this, Terry: In the past week and a half I've been to the cinema, a wrestling show, a 2-day conference and a Korean barbecue restaurant, not to mention on any number of trains.

Life goes on, and life's still pretty brilliant even if our subconscious tries to tell us otherwise.

I’ve woken up at six am not sure what to make of this. I’m thinking about the exposure I had in A&E and whether I am at risk or not! I need to be realistic hear of both sides of the argument for and against! Please help guys if you can!

Symptoms: sore throat, headache, running blocked nose, bit of a cough

Are these new....ISH the cough is scratchy in my throat I usually have a smokers cough. And yes I have started smoking again due to the stress I am under.

What could these symptoms be?
These are not typical of coronavirus but equally I have never met someone with coronavirus..... we hear all these survivor stories of coronavirus but they they are as rare as those who have died from coronavirus and telling us that they are well is and getting better is so confusing!!
Anyway me!

My eyes are sore af and running too!
Is this hay fever? Is this a normal cold? Is the coronavirus

My ONLY exposure was in A and E on Sunday afternoon (2 days ago) very close proximity to suspected patients, they were behind a curtain with foot gap above and below you know the cubical curtains in a hospital right? I was stood back to back touching with a curtain before I realised that person was being contained for COVID-19 I was touching the curtain for ten minutes that’s how close I was when I finally mad sense of what was going on around me I moved to the other side of my mums trolley washed my hands with hand sanitiser and wiped my mouth and continued to repeat these every five ten minutes. But like I say multiple bays were sealed for containment the patients didn’t leave the bays but their visitors did and one woman was not very careful and walked out with her mask on all the way to the front of the hospital and she was meant to dispose of it.

So am I at risk? Maybe? It’s possible? I have no idea!!! Prior to that exposure mum and i were self isolating as best as possible as well as grabbing food and stuff here and there.

So I am going to take my temperature and a antihistamine and see what happens . I’m scared [emoji45]

Only realised as well if I self isolate I have no one to help me out. I’ve been the helper to everyone else.... I’m going to cry I’m feel so alone and scared right now

If someone can help me with this information when did Derby city get the diagnostic of 4 confirmed cases? And could potentially it takes up to 72 hours for test results to come back. So thinking really logically here if those in hospital get diagnosed with CV then the numbers will rise today or tomorrow in a Derby city?

If that rises in the next 24/48 hours then I know a little more for certain I am at risk?

Am I making any kind of sense

It would take a couple of days minimum before becoming symptomatic anyways, so Sunday was too soon.

Hope your mom is doing better soon! It must be terrible not being able to visit. But it's for the good of the patients and workers. Some local hospitals here are also adopting this policy.

Spoken to mum and the ward she’s not great but still fighting through. Doctors will be to see her again shortly let’s how they can establish why she is bleeding and get a plan! I cracked and told her about her surprise crochet blanket I thought I’d demonstrate how much I miss her. She knows I don’t crochet so she understands the effort I am making by doing this and she loves it and I’m relieved she likes the colours

Having a tough time. Mum is stable but still got a lot to sort out

I’m panicking again about coronavirus. I’m concerned about everyone. I have now just heard Germany’s address to the Nation and I didn’t believe conspiracy theories before but when Angela Merkle has addressed Germany with a word to word address similar to BOJO I think something really really bad is upon us and I’m starting to fall down a deep hard fear hole.

I have now two scenarios I need mum to stay in hospital until she is 100% sorted or I need her home 100% sorted. Currently they are trying to say after a 24 hour stability she can return home however if it starts again we have to go back through A&E! Exposed to coronavirus again and risk! And we are at risk of them cancelling her out patient appointment for her test which is what she needs urgently next thursday. I don’t know what to do any more I will have ring PALS

It's probably all that salt from those millions of bags of crisps you were eating

If you can get up and do some stuff. Even boring cleaning can help distract your mind and burn off some of the stress chemicals.

Don't kick yourself, you're only human. You've just been through a very stressful time irrespective of the current national problems. It's overwhelming and can knock you out of sorts for days whilst your body needs to rebuild itself from all the worrying. It's all physical, all chemicals, so naturally the body needs time to sort out those imbalances just as it does from anything we wouldn't question in physical stress such as aches & pains.

It's all physical, all chemicals, so naturally the body needs time to sort out those imbalances just as it does from anything we wouldn't question in physical stress such as aches & pains.

I’m just so grumpy and I feel like I could cry non stop I don’t know why maybe I’m scared and this week has been a scary reality too. I’m so overwhelmed my duvet is my favourite place right now. Feeling super low. I got up and had to do some paperwork for my mum and my gran that took four hours just finished and got back into bed. I’m not dressed that window of opportunity let me hours ago

Well that's something. Sitting around can be difficult when your mind is running amok. Getting into something for hours is a good way to steer your mind away from what it thinks it wants to torment you with all day.

Being grumpy is probably because you have had the highs of panic and now it's that washed out time. Keep hydrated and eat, your body needs the basics to rebuild the chemicals it will be rebalancing.

At least she must be over the worst now, as she is back home.

I really don’t feel well and this is 100 percent stress and fear!
My other symptoms and feeling run down have vanished since I stopped taking antihistamines and I’ve not felt so lethargic. However I am on day 6 of contact with potential transmission. So still keeping an eye on my temperature still normal!
However I felt something was brewing and I started to feel scared and then a news update came on my phone that over 5000 confirmed cases today that’s over a thousand were diagnosed today.

I’m in sheer terror inside! And I just want to know we will all be ok! I’m heartbroken thinking of so many people suffering and dying I’m devastated!

you need to keep reminding yourself though that the actual percentage of people getting seriously ill or dying is extremely low. For the vast majority, they get a cold. I totally understand the fear and especially in your case as you are a caretaker for your mom with health issues. So I’m definitely not trying to undermine your situation. Just keep washing and disinfecting and do your best to stay healthy.

It could have probably already been that total in this country just over a fortnight ago, but looks like things are starting to get a bit clearer now.
I appreciate your feeling for others' suffering though 100%, times are very hard for stacks of people the world over ATM. I'm sure we'll ale come through it all eventually, only time can tell.

Just remember thus far more people worldwide have recovered from the virus than have died from it. And you should be at a much lower risk of fatality, as you are a younger person, and female. Try listening to some of your favourite music or watching your favourite TV programmes or films, etc to relax.

Hi Phoenixess, I think you'll feel a lot better once time has passed because you know the facts of contamination, in your head you will not be at ease until you've passed that time. I was the same with a neighbour who had just returned from Spain. Every day I was aware of any new feeling and each day I would tick another day passed and ok. So it's a matter of keeping busy and before you know it, you will feel a lot better in your mind. xx :hugs:

Thanks carnation you know exactly what I mean! It’s horrible it make you paranoid. I’m lying here questioning myself what would it mean if I let go of the fear and stopped counting days!
It’s as bad as that fear of having unprotected sex waiting for your period to arrive (poor analogy but you know what I mean) xx

Were you on the drowsy antihistamines? Maybe shifting to the other type might prevent feeling lethargic?

They are the drowsy ones. You could try loratadine. I have always used them because they are non drowsy.

I’m not having a good day!
I woke up with a burst blood vessel in my eye and what looked like a cut due to the discomfort in my eye and I ended up having to go to A and E. on presenting there with an eye problem my blood pressure was 150+/104 which has scared the living daylights out of me I know I was anxious and on edge and I didn’t have a panic attack just highly stressed I’ve had a headache now for an hour. Feel safe that I wasn’t at risk of COVID-19! As I didn’t come into contact with any patients there I was he’s my hands and used antibacterial gel. I also was in and out of A and E in half an hour. Can I just say unheard of and thank you to those who helped me this morning. I now have I eye drops and it is a subjunctional hemorrhage.just need to get my stress levels under control or else that will kill me!

Aww Phoenixess :hugs:
I've had that in my eye, frightened the life out of me at the time. I didn't go to A&E, but went to an Optician and he didn't seem to bothered about it and gave me an excellent report on my eyes.
Can I say, you are so brave and I think you are coping with everything so well, even if you think you are not.
Yes, a very stressful time for you and you really have to find stuff to calm yourself down. x :hugs:

I’ve had that a few times, nothing to worry about. It’s often when I rub my eyes too hard.

Glad you’re ok though x

Phoenixess, if you were to run down the street your blood pressure would be 180+, so although yours was up a bit you are still well below any danger reading.
Many people have raised blood pressure when surrounded by white coats. So try not to worry. :hugs:
Tomorrow is another day x

There are probably a lot of people with HA that are extremely hypervigilant ATM, even some whose symptoms are not the two primary symptoms of CV that is a temperature of at least 37.8 Celsius/100 Fahrenheit (or higher) and/or constant bouts of dry coughing.
